Default Black Grills, methods?

I see quite a few people with black upper grills, i think this looks awesome since the 2 lower grills are black also.

What did you guys use to paint the grill? Specific products? Or is it just a grill that you bought black?

Tahnks!

Krylon Fusion paint for plastic and some coats of clears should do the trick.

you can take it to a pro and get it done

since you live in mesa you can go to space age paint, they sell automotive paint in aerosol can ready to spray. same thing with clear coat.

probably won't come out as nice as using a real professional paint set up, but it might do the trick if your looking to same some $

You'll still need to prep the grill

or you can swing by here and we can have our painter paint the grill for you as well

might take about a week since he is backed up right now

Hey, ive wanted to know how to do this too, WITHOUT taking it to a paint shop.. i found the KRYLON FUZION black paint for PLASTIC.. and i bought 2 cans of clear coat... BUT! do i have to get some adhesion promoter first? like this is what i am going to do on sunday, dont know if its going to work, thats why i need help first...

1st Step... Spray some black Primer on it first
2nd Step... Spray the Black KRYLON FUZION paint on
3rd Step. CLEAR KOAT THE ENTIRE AREA...
but! if i get the adhesion promoter what step do i have to put it on? cause i want it to kinda/sorta stick on ther elonger.. not to chip real easy.... thanks!!!

I never used Krylon's Fusion paint, but they claim it bonds to Most plastics so you probably won't need an adhesion promoter, but it might be a good idea to make sure the surface clean and lightly sanded to help promote better adhesion. Krylons says there is no prepping needed, but I don't see how a little prep work can hurt.

Take the grille in. Not only will it look 100% better, but it will last longer and resist chipping better.

Seriously, just drop it off at a body shop and ask them to shoot it on the side the next time they're shooting black. Shouldn't cost much at all.

Mine still looks awesome.

I spray canned one, and it chipped pretty quickly and easily. I then got an OEM grille... no chips!

Another way is to just buy someones BSP OEM grill. This way you can keep your stock one for the future. There's always someone selling theirs.....you just have to look for it. I've found it on Ebay a lot. Good Luck!

Krylon Fusion looks alright but you can still tell it was a rattle can job, i'll probably take mine to get it professionally painted pretty soon.

Thanks for the info, I go to space age a lot. I do valve cover painting on the side, so I got all the tools. Just wondered if there is that one color that everyone goes with. If its just black, I will pick up some semigloss and spray it down.

Thanks for the input!

If you want to get fancy, go with the BSP, which has some metallic in it, but I doubt anyone's gonna say anything if you go straight black.

Mine is just gloss black to match my lip kit. No pearl. Didn't want the sparkle and didn't want the expense either.
