Engine bay lighting? how too?
Iv got some ideas to light up my engine bay. but i wanted to no how eveyone got there leds or tubes to stick in there fenders? ive got some ideas like hot glue, magnets, expoy, and all of the above together?? anyone have a better way?
cathodes work great if you coat them in silicon real well. there's also 'paint-on' electrical tape, same diff, just seals em.
what I want is a momemtary switch that ALWAYS turns on my bay lights when the hood is up... have not found that yet.

I have one under each fender, one on the firewall, and one under the radiator support. They are all hooked up to a mercury switch on the hood, so when i open the hood they allways go on.
I used a 2 part epoxy and have never had a problem with them falling, even after i hit a deer and smashed the radiator support the cathod still worked.
Bythe way all the tubes are 12" long from oznium.

The mecury switch is a good idea, except for the fact that they are motion sensitive.
Meaning that , depending on how it is mounted, the lights will turn on when accelarating, decelerating or turning. If they are bright enough the "flashing" will attract the attention of Jonny Law (police) to your car.
I would use a broken ground type switch where you open the hood connecting the ground and turning on the lights. This is the type of switch found in older cars for the dome light, glove box light, trunk light and hood lights. In using this type you only get
lights when it is opened, not when you are in motion.

Got that kind of switch (which I always call a detent switch) on mine. Pop the hood, lights come on.
It was part of the kit I got from Bill at Scion Specialties Las Vegas. Bill is the MAN! If you want to do this, hit him up.

You guys do know that back in the day that is how The Big 3 used to get there hood lamps to turn on and off, with the mercury switch. If you tilt the swith in the off position enough then you shouldnt have any problems. When the hood is raised it sits at almost a 45 degree angle to the ground anyway.
I would go with a mercury switch, as pin switches can get crushed or rust out.
BTW ... i have the Oznium set up with one 6 inch under each fender and two 12s under the radiator brace and 2 more up against the fire wall, tucked out of sight. Mine turn on manually with a toggle that fits in one of the 3 spaces under the ash tray. The switch illuminates orange ( like everything else on my box ) while in the on position.

My kit came from www.randode.com -- And uses a rocker switch located under the ashtray as well. Very clean install.
