Default Rear fenderwell halfwheel cover

I have a rather unique situation with my box that I'm searching for a solution to. Due to a mobility modification, the rear fenderwell leaves a large gap between the bottom of the fenderwell and the top of the tire.

Ideally I would like something that could be painted off-vehicle and bolt on rather than being bondo'd to the rear quarterpanel. Something that would match the existing fender curve would be best, though I've only seen well covers that are flush with the bottom edge of the chassis.

Barring a suitable commercial solution, I may try my hand at some glasswork (with knowledgable assistance) for a custom solution. Has anyone else made something like this yet?

I can't really help you, sorry. But I must say your box is pretty cool. I've clicked on the ad at the top of the forum for handicap access xB before but I have never actually seen one that somebody owns. That's awesome.

Does your car sit like that while driving, or just during entry/exit ?

I have seen cars that "squat" for those that have similar systems, they used air shocks that adjust the ride and/or hydrolics/air ride to keep stock lines. Just an idea.

And check out some of the old school lowrider shops in your area, they often have fender well "skirts" your looking for, they snap on and off. A shop may have some old ones lying around or offer you some help in modding some for you.

I recently met someone who has that same conversion done. It wouldn't have happend to be done by a company called Braun would it. I've seen it up close, I Might suggest going to a custom shop/ restoration shop that might be able to help you. I know there are a few in maryland, but it's going to be expensive. Fiberglassing stuff is a long pain in the but process also. If the rear end is set up like the other xB I saw finding a suitable mounting position for the rear might be alittle hard too. The rear suspension takes up a lot of the fender well. Good luck.

frogbox - Yeah, unfortunately it sits like that the whole time. I decided not to go with the Air Ride suspension due to reliability and cost issues. The Air Ride has the same problem, only worse, where the rear end is raised up during driving. The manual strut and coil spring suspension does have pleantly of space left in the well, so that won't be a problem.

Part of the mod involved rerouting the exhaust and moving the gas tank forward / lower, so a suspension adjustment isn't practical without worrying about the gas tank dragging / catching on uneven pavement or speedbumps.

Ghost_1 - It isn't the Braun conversion. I did take a look at their product, but it only offered 48" of clearence, this has 55" to accomodate my wife and a motorized chair.

I know glasswork is a pain, so I might try and find a flat piece of ABS plastic, cut it to size and mount it on a frame to bolt / clip onto the fender well.

airbags can be quite reliable when using braided line. and you can ride lower than that if you'd choose to.

Just raise the front up & put rebel flag on it. LOL

For real the fender skirts or maybe a sleeve-type coilover setup might work to get rid of some wheel gap.
