Default 15" Tire suggestions

Well, the OEM Goodyears are now toast after a whopping 20,000 miles.

I'm looking for QUIET, smooth riding tires. Not really necessary to be performance oriented. My XB is a cruiser, not a racer. Something that's also going to last over 20,000 miles.

I'm leaning towards Yokahama's from Discount tire.

I currently have a set of cheapie chrome wheels from Discount Tire. I'm thinking of going back to painted steelies. Either way, it's basically a stock size wheel. Car is also lowered with Tien-S-Tech springs.

Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

BF Goodrich Traction T/As seem to have a good rep. I've got some; they seem decent and a bit quieter than the Goodyear Eagle LSes that come stock.

what size wheel setup did you get and your looking for touring tire as options go long tread life and quiet.

I really like my Yoko AVID TRZ. Cheap, better traction and cornering than the Goodyear. 80,000 mile warranty, so they shouldn't wear out fast. I'd get something else if your roads have a lot of rain grooves- the tread on these will follow them.

If you want best overall quality tire, go with a Michelin. You'll pay top dollar for them though. A little less costly option would be BFGs. These are the only ones I would consider using. Its partially due to me working for Michelin, but they are great tires!

I purchased OEM size Yoko Avid TRZs and love them. Better traction, much quieter, and good treadwear.

Happy owner of above tires here.

My friend had the Avids on his Jetta. It was a real nice tire. BTW, how did you only get 20,000 out of the stock tire. My wife has 28,000 on hers and the tires are still going strong.

They just wore out. I check tire pressure often. Rotated three times within the 20,000 miles. I'm a pretty conservative driver.

If you look at reviews regarding the OEM Goodyears on sites such as Tirerack, etc, you will see the same story.

I guess you got lucky with your set.

I have only had these pups on for about a month, but what a diff from the Goodyears.
Highly recommend these tires as well.

56.00 from tirerack.com, not a bad deal.....even with shipping its a good price.

The Falken Ziex and Kumho Ecsta lines are also worth considering if you need a solid tire with great treadlife for an inexpensive price. Picked up my Ziexs for $44/ea @ edgeracing.com

Try out the Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires in the 205/55-15 size. Pretty much same diameter as stock, but just a tad bit wider. Very good wet weather traction & decent dry traction too. I run these on the box & ran them on a Toyota Sienna minivan before that. These tires are legions better than the crappy tires that the Sienna & xB come with. ( ^_^)

Just got back after purchasing the Falken's. 195-60-15.

I really wanted to try the Yokahama's as after researching online, it sounds like they have better treadwear.

But it was an expensive Christmas, the Falkens were in stock, and out the door price was $90.00 less for the set of 4.

22 mile ride home. Pretty quiet, nice plush feeling ride. Hope they last longer then the OEM Goodyears!!

The wider tire fills out the wheel well + Tien S-Tech's makes for a nice look.

Thanks to all who left feedback about their tires.

Pics of my 15s are in my profile gallery, and here's a chart (courtesy Tirerack) that helped my make a choice. Not only have I had good luck with BFG over the years, I needed a tire that was competent iun the WET.

I agree, Tirerack has the most complete review info. Unfortunatly, they do not sell Falken.

Other sites have overall positive reviews, as well as fellow ScionLife members. So I took a chance. They ride great. We'll see about treadwear.

And then there's the set of T/A's on my Mustang that are so out of round they can't be balanced!

The tirerack.com chart has "N/A" for both "Deep Snow Traction" and "Ice Traction" for the BFG. I guess that means you can't drive in those conditions!
