you don't? there is no water going into your intake, so there should be no issue.

What kind of Vented hood? I was gonna get the Seibon SC for my xB, but I was thinking the same thing on the hood vent. Ive got a short ram intake so I dont think I'll get water in it....

water may make for a VERY dirty engine bay but unless you filter is under the openeing and uses an exposed filter element noting will really go wrong.

if on some crazy chance that you are getting watter into your intake (aftermarket of course, either short ram or cold air) you can get a heat shield for the intake - $10-12 ebay, and position it on top of the filter to keep water out from the top, as oppsed to positioning it on bottom of filter, to keep engine heat out.

theres a vented hood that comes with a plexi glass bolt on cover for that stuff i believe to keep from having this issue.

it will be fine

i had a vented CF hood on my focus and i ran it all year long. rain , sleet snow, no problems. just really dirty engine and steam from the exhaust manifold, which was in front instead of our 1NZ's which is facing the rear

Where did all the confusion about water in the intake come from? The water that goes down the opening in the vented hood just drips through and some might get on the engine like firesquare said. It looked like a straight path to the ground.

My 1972 Suburban had like 75 louvers in the hood surface. All kinds of water goes down on the engine when it rains. Doesn't hurt a thing except that the engine gets dirty faster. Think about it. the entire front of your engine is basically open. Water hits the radiator and goes right thru onto the engine, splashes up from the sides some also. Old badly sealed distributors are about the only thing that has real problems with water. Excess water gets the inside of the cap wet and then it NO GO NO MO!! Todays electronic and direct fired ignitions arent really effected by water.

That confusion woulda been mine. I'd heard a few horror stories about getting H2O in your intake and killing the engine. i want to get the SEIBON hood with the vent, but I wasnt sure if water could get into the short ram intake.....

I have problems with touchless car washes and my short intake. Chassis and/or wheel jets kill the car.

OK my bad, I missed the part where you said something about the short ram. Most short rams have the filter out infront of the dr. side wheelwell, The vents on the hood are farther inboard and really nowhere near the filter so you shold be fine in that aspect.

BTW I like that vented hood. I'm thinking about getting that Roush Focus hood scoop and mounting it on a stock hood and painting it semigloss black.

Yeah direct water ingestion by the intake is very bad. A buddy of mine hit a deep puddle under a bridge and blew up his Jaguar that way once. Water doesnt compress well and when it gets it the cylinders the kinda explode. That puddle cost my bud's insurance company new 10 grand for a new engine installed. But unless your hood vent is going to pour directly on top of an unjacked intake you aren't likely to have any trouble from it.

That gentlemen, is what I needed to hear. I was getting lost asking about it, and then someone posted about it, and never heard about it again.... It a short ram that sits under/in front of the battery, So I dont think rain will be an issue, i am worried if I put some DF210 in there if that will put me too low and in danger of sucking water tho

I'd put a peice of plexi like they said when its going to rain bolt it into the vent it'll keep the water out, snow out whatever, you won't have to worry about any steam coming off your exhaust fogging the windshield, the bay will stay cleaner

If you just wanted the "look" of that vented hood I'd silicone plexi over the holes like jwaj2002 said and not worry about water at all.

bb2ner dont do the mounting hood thing. our hoods are so thin that after u place, bondo, prime, sand paint and are done the hood will look good, but when it bends alil that bondo is gonna crack, i work at a custom shop it happens alot and people dont care they want it anyway lol. oh anyone hae a problem with water dripping on intake from the headlights when it rains, when i wash car water just pours down the headlight onto the intake so ima make a shield for it, i guess
