Default Shocks covered under warrenty?

My front right shock seems to be blown, wheel wobbles up and down like crazy on bumps.

I was thinking this might be covered under warrenty, I know brakes and other natural wear and tear but I thought I had heard of shocks being under warrenty for the first 36k.

You would have to check your warranty to see if shocks are considered a wear and tear item. I dont have a copy of it in front of me but normally they arent covered. You could always ask the dealer though. some dealers have been known to take of stuff for customer satisfaction while others will just stick it to you.

I was at my dealership the other day trying to set up an appointment to get my left front strut place, and they asked if my box was still under warranty... so I'm assuming they are covered. I'll, of course, clarify before I allow them to do the work. Just give the dealership a call and they should be able to set it straight for you.

Usually it is just tires that are covered under a seperate warranty. The shocks should be covered under the original warranty if they failed.

If it failed and the miles are under the 36K then it would be covered under the warranty for sure. I'd have them change out both cause they are supposed to be replaced as a set. Otherwise you might have funny handling characteristics. plus they may have been from a bad batch so have both replaced just to be sure.

if your within milage then they are warranty claim, but if the suspension is alterend in anyway like aftermarket springs they will tell you to hit the road, and if they say that they wont cover it just complain to the manager, because customer feedback is important to them, and it seem to work at the dealer i work for

Even if you have springs just swap them back before you go in. Then later put them back on after you get the new struts installed.
I wonder how much the OEM struts are to replace otherwise?

its taken car of, i covered them for him

...a little note on warranty claims. For those of you worried about springs voiding warranty keep something in mind.

In order for any motor company to decline a claim on warranty due to aftermarket products, they must prove in a court of law that the aftermarket product directly caused the malfunction of whatever the product may be. in this scenario, they most likely could, and its a pain, but just some food for thought.

How likely would this ever happen over items such as a pair of shocks or whatever? Wouldn't this just end up costing more money than what the parts are even worth? Unless an entire engine exploded or something...

There also is not much consistency either. I've read about them replacing complete engines for people that drove through deep water on purpose. And others that needed to have their clutches replaced because one dealer mis-adjusted it and fried it then tried to deny having done anything wrong only to end up having the insurance company pay for the tear down to prove the dealer did something wrong. It's crazy what they will and won't cover. I'm just thankful mine hasn't needed to be returned for any warranty work. I'm afraid what I'd do if it either wasn't covered or if got damaged while being repaired. Knock on wood!!!!

Actually, IMO Scion/Toyota warranty is one of the best . You guys just went to a very BAD dealership. You should contact the Toyota customer service center and report your experience(s) to them.
