My dealer told me to get TRD Shocks with the springs...but alot of you have not...from what I have been reading. Do you think its worth getting the shocks? or is my dealer trying to make money off of me? Thanks in advance.

 

yeah it would be worth it to get the shocks....little stiffer.......and yes they are trying to make money off you.....its there job.......

 

Will it make a really big difference? I am getting everything installed before I get my car...so if its not a big difference I can hold off on it.

 

that depends on what kind of driving you are going to do? corner carving....daily driving......

since it daily......then dont get them......oem is good enough.....

 

you should get them if you don't want your struts to go bad in 15k miles. when you lower a vehicle, you need to put stiffer struts on it to compensate for the stiffer, shorter springs.

That's 15K more than you'll get if you replace them now.

 

And if they do go bad in 15K miles, they'll be replaced free under warranty (provided the dealer installed the TRD springs.)

 

the trd struts are made for use with the trd springs you won't have any problem if you use them....unlike if you run gold lines or a spring with a bigger drop then your stock strut will blow out extremely fast....my advice would be hotchkis tvs stage 1 kit with trd shock/struts

 

Has ANYONE blown a shock on thier Scion after installing aftermarket springs? Unless you hit a huge pot hole or curb your shocks will not bottom out, that's what blows struts. I think the blown shock/struts is an urban legend and supported by boneheads that abuse their cars. I have 15,000mi on my car with Eibachs/stock struts and shocks, my struts/shocks work like new.... If your shocks/springs are old/worn before you install the lowering springs you can damage the shaft seal because it is now working on a different part of the shaft that has had dirt/scratches ground in.

BTW, shocks/struts can be blown but it's not the springs fault, it's the drivers. My wife blew 2 passenger side struts on our mini van with Eibachs. She hit the same pot hole twice in a month, she was "grounded" and not allowed to drive that road until the city fixed that hole. It took 3 calls and threats of legal action to get the hole repaired. We have really crappy roads here.

first of all, the struts probably would not have broken if you had not installed the lowering springs on the minivan. second of all, i have seen many stories on this board about people needing new struts in 12-15k when they installed the new springs but not the trd struts. so in other words, you want to have to go to the dealer every 15k miles to put new struts on your car? the warranty on the struts is only 3 year / 36k miles i believe.

 

OK, I normally don't respond to people that want to argue but this time I will. I did a search for "blown struts" , lots of hits on struts but none on "blown struts" so where are all these stories of messed up struts/shocks??

The Eibachs were not the cause of the blown struts on the mini van, the pot hole was 12" deep with a 6" bump on the back side where the pavement had been pushed out of the sink hole. It would have blown a strut with the stock soft springs.... don't comment on things you don't know about.

I'll take a break from this forum for a while, too many kids.... (that doesn't always mean young people).

i don't mean to argue, but i did see a lot of posts about people needing to get their struts replaced after 12-15k when they went with stock struts and trd / lowering springs.

 

What are struts? Do I need to get those also if I get the shocks/springs??? The price I am getting is $851.50 with installation. Right now...I am planning on just getting the exhuast, struct tie bar, shocks/springs, and sway bar. Do I also need structs? Plus if I get these now instead of after i purchase the car...the warranties on these parts are 3yr/36k instead of just 1 year.
