Jim Press is Toyota's first foreign director
I haven't seen any reference to this (and forgive me if I'm wrong, because it's my first time posting in scionlife).

TOKYO -- Toyota Motor Corp. named James Press as its first non-Japanese member of the board in a much-anticipated effort to reflect in its top management its increasing dependence on the U.S. market.
Japan's No. 1 car maker said Mr. Press, 60 years old, will become a senior managing director, subject to approval at a shareholder meeting in June. Mr. Press is president of Toyota's North American operations.
The appointment comes as Toyota is enjoying rising sales in the U.S. at the cost of its Detroit rivals. Analysts estimate that 34% of Toyota's overall sales volume and 43% of its operating profit come from North America. ...
Americans hold top positions in Toyota divisions such as plant management and product development. But until now, its board hadn't reflected this trend...
"There's finally some recognition that they're not just a Japanese company anymore," said Christopher Richter, a Tokyo-based analyst at brokerage firm CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets.

1) It had nothing to do with race. Why bring it up?
2) Ford and GM won't be around in your grandchildren's lifetime. They will have long gone out of buisness.

so the company that produces the top-selling vehicle in America is gonna suddenly drop off the face of the earth? last i checked there's a crapload of rednecks in this country who aren't gonna buy an import for the life of them. and the mustang, gto, charger, and camaro (when it comes back out) are gonna be allowed to just die? yeah right. maybe a one or two, but not at all. how bout the GMT900 platform? say bye bye to suburbans, yukons, tahoes, escalades, silverados, sierras and more? fat chance of that
just cause a company is declining in sales doesnt mean its gonna die. im an import guy, ill never buy a domestic sedan or coupe. but if you think that 2 companies that produce so many of today's vehicles are just gonna suddenly drop out and die...you're sorely mistaken. how bout construction workers? they need trucks. someone haulin a boat? a expedition or suburban works pretty nice. if you think southerners who love their truck, and often times love nascar too (read: hate toyota) are gonna jump up and buy an import then someone hit you over the head with a baseball hat.
im not meaning to be stereotypical or offensive in any way. but the truth of the matter is....9 out of 10 people who watch nascar (hmm a large population of our country) drive a domestic. many people have to drive a domestic cause of their job, or cause of a certain task they're gonna use their car for. lastly...do you really think the government would just let ford and GM slide off the face of the earth? i mean honestly...listen to what you're sayin... you've got some screwed up thinking.
Yea i live i ntampa and let me tell you tC_skier isnt lieing bout rednecks. I have loads of friends who wont buy anything not american. I can see how Ford would go out of business with their only good car being the mustang, but theres no chance of GM going out of business. They still are ranked number 1 in volume of production FOLLOWED by Toyota at number 2 and its been that way for the past 5-6 years. Im not saying toyota motors wont overtake general motors in total volume but its still gonna take toyota a few more years untill they reach that point and even then whos going to knock GM out of 2nd place?

9 out of 10 NASCAR fans drive domestincs? My wife is the biggest NASCAR fan there is (I can't stand it). She drives an xB, her mom watches and she drives an Acura, her sister watches it and she drives a civic. not to mention almost everyone I know in the service deparment here at the dealership watch and they drive Toyota's. All that what you says proves that 56% of all statistics are made up on the spot. By the way I was kidding when I said that GM and Ford would be out of buisness. IT WAS A JOKE. Lighten up.

The fact that a major japanese company decides to appoint an american to their board is big news. Remember the japanese are supposed to be the uptight racist 'closed society', And the good ole US of A is supposed to be the enlightened 'melting pot' example for the world? The factory floor is pretty integrated alright. Too bad you won't see it in the boards or exec managements though.
I belive that your choice of words should have been non-american not non-white. I couldn't find too much on GM's board og directors however I did find a picture of them and there was a black guy it, so they have had at least one non-white person on the board of directors.
