Default caliper clearance issues

these questions are for those who have had issues with the front calipers rubbing the inside of the rim:

what size rim were you running?

what part of the caliper was rubbing the rim?

i want to know what to look out for when i mount my rims this weekend. they are 17x7 +40. i have 5mm spacers on hand just in case i need them, but i want to know for sure if im gonna need them before i start rolling on the rims (i dont want to scratch anything to find out that i do in fact need the spacers).

from what ive read so far, the caliper clearance issues have usually come up with people that go with 15" rims. does anyone have issues with 17s?

i ran into that with an 18 x 7 +38. i can take a pic 2nite after work if u like, but there was no curve out from the spoke at all and it rubbed on the outside of the pad holder. A 5 mm did the trick.....

My 15"x6.5" Rota Grids barely clear the calipers by about 2 mm. They have a 38 mm offset. Yeah. They're that tight. ('o' ) ! No rubbing, though.

and just so everyone know offset is not what is causing this problem. I believe it is called backspacing.
