DIY Permanent, NON paper, door rattle fix.
This is a permanent fix for the rattling in your door that will stop about 98% of the rattling and it only costs about 4 bucks.
Time to do: Approx. 5 mins per side Materials needed: -Scissors -and this craft foam stuff from walmart: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V...454-k/foam.jpg Driver Side. Step 1: Remove the window/lock controls https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9...k/step%2B1.jpg Pull up here, there is a hook at the other end that will break if you try to pull up there. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-L...k/step%2B2.jpg Then pull back to remove the controls. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-r...step%2B2.2.jpg This is that hook I was talking about. Step 2: Cut strips of the foam sheet and place anywhere that is flat. (I used a black sheet of foam but you can use whatever color you want because it doesn't show once the controls are re-installed.) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9...k/step%2B3.jpg This is how I did mine. Step 3: Re-install the controls in the opposite way they were removed making sure that the hook at the forward end goes all the way forward before you snap everything down. Congratulations! You've just silenced that annoying rattle and now you can enjoy your music as loud as you want with very very little rattling if any. Passenger side installs the same way. |
Where did you find the foam?
I got it from Walmart in the craft section but I'm sure any arts and crafts type place would have it too.
I love it man. Nice DIY.
Thanks! As I get my hands on more parts I'll post more write ups
is it the rattling noise when you bump up the bass?
You don't even really have to bump it up. I would experience the rattling at very moderate volumes where I'd think to myself, "now there is no way my music is loud enough to be causing this!"
Yeah the music rattle not the window rattle that some people have been getting.
Wow. Nice! Thanks for the post!!!

Any ideas on where in the back the noise is coming from?

Thanks a lot it worked great. My Walmart only had the huge pack so now I have tons of multicolor peel and stick foam . I do still get some vibration from one side you didn't place any foam I'm gonna take it off again and see if I can get a thin piece on that sodr
I bought the foam tonight and had the same thought. "Holy crap, I need about 1/4 of 1 sheet and I have 6 sheets???" Guess I'm gonna be foaming a bunch of stuff.
lol, foam the whole inside of ur tC2 for extra protection when u AutoX
Just went out and actually did the mod. Works great. As clean as 6x9 speakers can sound!
But I lied, I didn't need 1/4 of the sheet. I needed about 1/32 (if that) of the sheet. As thin as you cut the strips, 6 sheets works out to miles of foam. After you buy the pack for $4, don't just do your car. Do all your friends' cars! Do their friends' cars! In fact, do all the tC2s in the state with your foam!!! |
