thanks for the info, I'll be checking mine. Also I'll ask my dealer the next time I go in to see if they check it.

A couple months after i lowered my car, i heard it too! just tighten the bolts and it goes away!! and the dealership wont do anything about it cause they were after market springs. dealerships don't care they will let you drive off their lot if something is wrong with your car. I have had it happen many of times...

I'm real glad you posted this! Is it just me? But allot of the suspension bolts I have are locking bolts... About 40% of them. I drive an 06. Maybe they were changed because I bought mine used with 1200 miles on it.

ok just curious, alot of people have posted that they're going to check this, has anyone found dangerously loose bolts? I am quite curious especially on the one with 105k miles that's never had it checked... It also tells you to check the brake linings at 5k miles any problems with that?

d0ugch0i 09-27-2008 07:09 PM

has anyone taken it to the dealership to get the bolts tightened?? how much is it going to be??

bluaeon 09-27-2008 07:21 PM

sciontc_mitch: thanks for these info. by any chance, do you have the full service manual? does anyone have service manual for download? please? :)

wow this looks like a bunch of work for every 5000 miles!!!! any one that has done all three parts want to share how long it took them???

dontknoa 12-09-2008 07:01 AM

Is there any proof of this? Until I see solid proof this sounds like a troll to me. Or maybe a dealer trying to get people in for service they don't need. ... Skeptical...

proof? why don't you get a torque wrench, get under your own car and see if you are able to re-tighten your chassis bolts. then i guess you'll believe it for yourself.

But I don't think you can call me a troll for helping other tC owners with this situation. Service you don't need, hmm.. Most dealers won't even do this work! Even though it's in the service schedule. So hey, you don't have to believe it, it's up to you, and it's your ride. But ask others that have already re-torqued their chassis bolts, who did the work themselves and didn't pay the dealer anything to do this. guess you'd call them trolls too?

hey jzibit17- no you don't have to do it every 5000 miles, more like once a year like every 15,000. All three parts took me like 2 hours, taking my time with the car up on jackstands. Then again it was a nice warm, summer day, took my time.

So far all I've seen were people with suspension mods needing to tighten bolts in this thread.. This is also NOT in the manual, although the service manual does say 'tighten drive shaft bolt' but the tc is front wheel drive and doesnt have a drive shaft per se. I will check my car but I highly doubt any bolts are coming loose, as it has 75k miles on it and the wheels still havent fallen off. Nobody else with stock suspension/high mileage seems to have gotten back about this problem, so for now ... :blah:

At the dealership now I made sure I ask about it and the guy told it'll be fine and to wait another time cause it's a 3hour job! What a joke!

Saint51 12-29-2008 10:03 PM

odd, i have been in and out of shops both Scion and local and this has never come up. I had my local guys look at it and there fine, good luck to those who are checking theirs...
