DIY: Make your tC Chirp/Honk (factory) when locks are pressed

I know everyone complains about there tC not chirping or honking when you lock the car. Well you can now have some noise to back up your locking on the remote and interior lock. Its not as hard as it looks.
"I take no blame for ANYTHING that you do to your vehicle, I am just helping you out!". ***UPDATE W/ FACTORY HORN BELOW***

Here's what you will need:

.screw driver
.wire splicers (4 of them)
.wire about 3ft
.Piezo buzzer or 2 wire horn

1) First start by lifting up the step plate where the wires are leading to the back of the car

2 ) Next locate the plastic nut on the driver side kick panel and remove with hands

3) Pull kick panel to the right and move out of the way

4) At the top left hand corner of the plugs there is a Grey plug, that's the one for the lock motor

5) To get to the wires behind the easy way, take a screwdriver and wedge it between the holder to remove the white plug out of the way.

6 ) Locate the wires in the back of the plug (Blue and Brown wires are the ones we need)

7) Run a set of wires to the front of the car... I used Red and Black

8) Connect the Blue wire from the grey plug to the Black wire you just ran.

9 ) Now connect the Brown from the Gray plug to the Red wire you just ran.

10 ) That's done so you can replace all the panels removed and the white plug you removed

11) Back to the front of the car, Pick a Piezo buzzer or horn of you choice and mount in a place that's good for you.

12) Connect the wires for the Buzzer or horn to the set of wires just run...Red to Red (+), Black to Black (-) *colors should match on most 12v horns*

13) Tuck wires back to make it look nice and test it out.

When you press the lock on the remote or door you will get a chirp. The Piezo shown makes a soft click on unlock too....depends on brands or horn.
If there are any questions about the post, don't be afraid to ask.

Factory Horn w/ locking

You will Need:

. solder gun
. solder
. Diode *50v - 6 amp* or this > Click here
. Wire
. wire splicer

6) Locate the wires in the back of the plug (the Brown wire is the one we need)

7) Run a wires to the front of the car... I used a Red wire

8) Now connect the Brown from the Gray plug to the Red wire you just ran.

9 )That's done so you can replace all the panels removed and the white plug you removed

10) Make a stop at your local Radio Shack and grab a Diode **50v - 6 amps** some heat shrink tube, light-duty rosin-core solder, and a solder gun. *if you have this at home your all set to go.

11) Solder the wire that you just ran to the black part of the diode.... And cut about a 2 ft wire and solder that to the silver side of the diode. Cover with heat shrink and heat gently till covered.

12) Remove cover of the Relay and Fuse cover next to the battery under the hood.

13) Find the Horn Relay and remove it. There will be 4 connections under the relay, one last one next to the heavy black wire is the one you need. Fish the wire through the relay and fuse box and connect the 2ft wire to this connection

14) Replace the Relay and Test the locks

15) Tuck wires back to make it look nice, and close the Relay and Fuse cover.

When you press the lock on the remote or door your horn will honk

That is the next step to follow in the week.... "Factory Honk with Locking"..... Have to look at more schematics... You will need a diode for that too. :lalala:

Have to now wire the Horn relay into the locks and i'll be set...
My piezo buzzer sounds so ghetto atm... Its a siren... I laugh when i hit the lock... Must get the horn working. :nails: Should have an update by Friday

So, let me get it straight, It chirps when you press the lock button on the doors?

Good write up, but I think that would become annoying fast.

Fhe1079 01-31-2006 04:34 PM

Yep... if you want to wire a switch in there to toggle it on and off thats up to you.
If you have a kid that likes to play with your locks this may not be a good idea for you.
I think its also a good way to get a girls attention... *hit locks* turn a head.

Update Now W/ Factory Horn :lalala:
Look at the end of first post....^^^^^^^

stl_tc_king 02-01-2006 12:08 AM

nice... does sound more professional with the stock horn?
also, does it make a sound when you unlock (using stock horn)?

Jackass 02-01-2006 12:28 AM

Wonder if you could put a relay on the power feed to the horn/buzzer that only was energized when the flashers hit. That way it only chirps when the lock button is hit as well as the lights flashing? Hmmm...may have to look into rigging that one up. Just not 100% sure that the lights do flash right when the button is hit on the remote.

stl_tc_king 02-01-2006 12:45 AM

^^^that's actually how i was thinking about doing it too, and yes the lights flash with the remote.

Yeah it does sound professional with the stock horn... To loud though.
Unlock just flashes the lights... no Beep (only Piezo Buzzer will)

TheQuietThings 02-01-2006 04:43 AM

that is awesome. however i'd rather have a custom chime rather than a horn, but i know at that point it would possible to hook anything up.

You got it... like extra lights, air horn, and maybe even a voice recording.
