Default Auto Image Resize Mod?

On the heals of the img attachment idea, one that I've been wanting for a while and may have been mentioned... is something to automatically scale the images.

Like when someone posts an image that's like 1600x1200 and you have to scroll a ridiculous amount to see it... if the forum resized it to about 640x480 or so.

I'm sure it's "possible" but... how likely is it?

If PHP has the GD Library installed then you can use that to resize images on the fly very easily. You can get instructions for PHP functions on php.net always.

This is already done automatically when you upload images to your personal gallery. Is that what you are talking about?

99% of the images in the forum are hosted through other servers and not on our own... so that wouldn't really work. We can only control the images that are hosted locally.
