How to change a thread title

How do I change the title to a thread of mine?

ack154 10-11-2009 02:00 AM

Click Edit on the post, then Go Advanced and change it there. Should work.

in before the lock?

I've tried this, it seems to only change the title of the post and not the entire thread...

There's got to be a way to change the title of a thread you've created, I know on the old SL I was able to...

SquallLHeart 03-10-2010 06:04 AM

if there are continued difficulties, just ask a mod to change it for you.

Close but not quite...

Go to Thread Tools in the dark stripe at the top center, just above the first post.

In that drop down menu click Edit Thread.

From there you can change the thread title instead of just the post title...

HTH!

Tom

^^ Under that tab the only options it has are
-"Show Printable Version"
-"E-Mail This Page"
-"Unsubscribe From This Thread"
-"Add a Poll to This Thread"

I would do this if I really botched up an important thread title, but I'm usually good at checking my spelling. The reason I change thread titles is for my pic thread that gets updated occasionally, and I wouldn't want to have to constantly bother a mod for that lol

Tomas 03-10-2010 05:16 PM

Yeah, only the mods can see the thread edit. Sorry 'bout that.

Is there a good reason that only mods can do this? If you trust users to name the thread in the first place, why not also trust thread creators to rename it if they want? Or is it a technical thing?

I'm in the same situation as cavalierkid.

SquallLHeart 10-12-2010 05:43 PM

it seems to be a technical thing right now..

For whatever reason the forum software requires that a time limit be set, and we understand there are practical limits to how large that number (in minutes) can be.

Here is the explanation of the option:

Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title
This setting is the number of minutes in which a user may edit the title of a thread that he starts, and have it apply to the thread listing screen (forumdisplay). After this time period, the change will only apply to the title shown in the first post of the thread. (Administrators and moderators with permission may always edit the title of the thread as shown on forumdisplay through the Edit Thread function.)
Currently the time limit for regular members to edit thread titles is set at 500,000 minutes (about 347 days, or nearly a year).

Please remember that editing the title of the first post DOES NOT edit the title of the thread - to edit the thread title one must use the "Thread Tools" menu in the dark grey stripe at the top of the thread.

HOWEVER, it may require some major changes to let non-moderators change thread titles - checking on this now...

HTH...

Hey guys,

I've been told that a member editing the first post of a thread, within 750,000 minutes (i bumped it,just in case that reset something), it will edit the title in the forumdisplay as well.

Are you experiencing otherwise? Or just assuming that since they don't get a thread tools drop down, that they can't edit their own thread title?

Tom, your statement:

Please remember that editing the title of the first post DOES NOT edit the title of the thread - to edit the thread title one must use the "Thread Tools" menu in the dark grey stripe at the top of the thread.
is actually not true. It would only be true if the user was outside of the thread title editing time limit.

cheers,
robb

Ooooooh, that makes more sense. I was wondering since my thread is brand new but didn't have the title change option under thread tools. I will try changing the first post title when the time comes. thx
