Hey guys, I am working to weed out some of the script problems on the site that are causing the slowdowns. We get HUGE server spikes about 10-20 times per day and they are caused by a few problem scripts that are not written well.

One of those scripts was the RSS modification that I added to the site recently. Every time the script was called it was taking a lot of server resources to process. That was causing other SQL queries to be delayes, and before long there was a long queue of waiting queries. That would result in a spike in server load that took 10-20 minutes to calm down.

Sorry guys, maybe I can find another script that isn't as screwy.

There have been fewer massive slowdowns since the change, Darren.

I had tried using the RSS to feed the widget but it was extremely slow. BTW Darren good job on the Hot Topics, i updated the widget with that and it works great.

Glad that will work for ya. I know that RSS is important to some, but that script was just putting a huge load on the server. OK -- discussion closed...
