Separate PPC Forums By Car Type
Lots of the PPC ads don't mention make or model. Could we make a mandatory drop down menu (for the seller to complete during the making the post) of the make and model or give a "universal" option?
I own an XB and I'll never be looking for a TC or XD part. Maybe it could look something like PPC XA/XB1 PPC XA/XB2 PPC TC1 PPC TC2 PPC XD PPC Universal Parts PPC Misc and Lots just a suggestion thanks Dennis |
It's been discussed in the past. I'll tell you one thing, getting people to post their PPC stuff in the appropriate forum is difficult enough already, my brain hurts thinking about how messy that would get.
Frankly, I don't think the volume within PPC is enough to warrant splitting it up. |
Could we vote? This is ridiculous
|
What about getting the thread prefixes back like on the old software? So when making a post you'd have to include what type of ad and for what car.
For example: FS: tC1: Random Part FT: xB2: Random Part And so on. NASIOC has their forum set up like that: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=152 I've also seen some forums include the location (state) of the seller in a column like where the post icons go. |

This is why many of us put FS: tC1 (etc) xxxItemxxx as the title
Like Ian said, the PPC section is really slow here, i am used to Zilvia where you are only allowed 2 bumps and then your thread is locked and you have to wait 3 days to start a new one. I posted stuff for sale here, came back and it was still on the first page after like a week, On Zilvia is off the first page within a day. haha |
I see new posts on the PPC here everyday (a few) and I get all excited only to find out the part is for a tc or xb2!
It would be nice if everyone had the courtesy of titling their post "fs tc1: CAI" or something close to that, but they just wont. There are lots more important things for me to concern myself with, this just irks me. |
When we were running this site on phpBB we had a hack in place that prefaced the subject line with things like FS: tC [whatever], but when we were moved to vB, we lost that, and nothing was available to replace it.
I will check with the folks at IB and see if there is now anything that could help us out. Having separate model forums is out - as Ian said above we have enough trouble getting people to post in proper PPC forums with as few as we have - actually we have more than enough problem just getting them to post the buy/sell stuff in ANY of the PPC forums instead of some random other forum. *sigh* Tom |
OK, We are actually making progress. It's not everything we want (yet) but shortly all new PPC threads will show a vehicle type in the subject line (title).
Robb, one of the IB folks is working on this right now. :) I'll let y'all know when it is in place. :) Tom |
This is the grandest damn day of my life. Who do I make the check out to?

There is another "product" that we may be able to use here that could possibly make it even better. It's a bit complex, but it lets the person starting a new sales/want thread enter a lot of specific information (possibly even requires) and then lets folks easily search for those details to narrow down their results. I'm playing with that now, on another site, and if we can engineer how to move what we have now into that new product, it looks like it would be fantastic. If not, we would have to install the new product, prevent new threads from being made in the PPC areas, and run them both until all the old PPC stuff "expires." I'll be able to tell you more later, meanwhile I need to discuss this with my folks "behind the curtain." In the mean time, we ARE moving toward some sort of solution. OK, I'm through playing with the PPC Forums for a couple of weeks. :)
You will notice when you look at the PPC listings and posts you will see those that have been made very recently have the car type as the first thing in the title, in red so they are easy to spot. If you try to post a new thread you will be required to indicate what type of car the thread applies to. Please let me know if I messed anything up, and if the change helps (I'm sure it will). Some time in the not too distant future, we will be installing the MarketPlace software and slowly moving to that even better system. Thanks for your patience! Tom |

Thought you might like to know if you didnt already, threads that already exist can be edited to include the prefix. Just tried it on one of my own threads.
Would it be possible to add another prefix with FT, FS, or WTB as options? |

Messed everything up. It only allows ONE required "Prefix" to the title, so car model is it. Sorry! |
I'm happy with the results of this. I feel like Charlie Sheen after banging a seven gram rock!

Duh, WINNING.
