we're talking about the passive function, which arms the system if you forget to press the lock button. . . but I am unsure that my "arming" they mean lock as well. . . it may just "arm" the alarm without locking the doors (if you enable the passive mode and forget to lock your doors).

headlights turn on for 20 seconds? I don't think you have a factory alarm. . . maybe a karr unit or something aftermarket the dealer installed?

is there a little square thing, next to your mirror controls, that says "Security"? It should have an LED and a small microphone (glass break sensor). There should also be a sticker on the window that says "protected by Scion Security," or something like that. If you don't have those, odds are it is not a factory alarm, factory meaning something that was installed by the port (which is controlled and run by Toyota). That, or factory meaning that the dealer installed the OEM spec parts. Many dealers offer better (and in some cases worse and malfunctioning) alarms that they slap onto the car.

Wow! Silly
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left Right, Left, Right, B, A, Select, Start!

you forgot a B, A pattern. And this is for two players. Remove select for one. :D

The Xa, xB, and tC have totally different "Toyota VIP" alarm systems.
The xB Toyota VIP alarm does NOT have a beeper or buzzer, the xA does. That is merely the most obvious difference. There is a vast difference in the programing, also.
For those with the Scion official, optional, Toyota VIP alarm in a Scion xB, this is the manual that the dealer should have given you - the Alarm System Owner's Manual.
If the dealer did NOT give you this manual with your alarm, beat them soundly about the head and shoulders until they cough one up - it is *required* that they give the original owner of the alarm system the owner's manual.
Here's a .pdf I made of my Scion xB alarm owner's manual:
http://tijil.org/scionlife/xB_VIP.pdf
If you have the Scion alarm in your xB (but NOT the one in the RS3, according to RUMORS), save a copy of this PDF... you may need it someday.

If your passive arming can be turned off, the instructions should be in the alarm owner's manual your dealer gave you.
Since it is a different system, the arm/disarm is likely different from the "normal" alarm.

That is correct. I sets the alarm but does not lock the doors - it has NO idea if you are maybe loading/unloading stuff, and might even have left the keys/remote in the car.
It is correct for the system to set the alarm to protect itself without potentially locking your keys in.
WORKS THE SAME ON THE xB.

Passive alarm
My 04 xB passive alarm works as the instructions direct. If you have the passive alarm set and unlock the doors but don't open the doors the passive alarm setting will relock the doors when the alarm resets. It will not lock the doors after you open them but will set the alarm.
