Towing motorcycle questions?

10 Attachment(s)
So after reviewing various threads on towing, I've roughly grouped people into these categories:

1. naysayers who've never actually done it, but are doom & gloom anyway.

2. those who've actually done it, and had great times. Things have always worked out fine.

3. those who've towed empty canoe trailer and had their transmission fall off in 5-miles. This last group, I have yet to find a single example.

So my conclusion is that towing is actually fine since EU Owner's Manual actually lists towing capacity. Even for something like a tiny 2-seater Toyota Paseo. Ok, so this is what I want to do:

questions:

1. Is this anyone's rig here? Or knows whose it is?

2. automatic or manual?

3. any upgrades needed? Trans cooler? Heavy-duty radiator?

I've been racing bikes for 8-yrs, have had variety of tow vehicles without any issues. Just want to put hitch on xB so my wife can help me with drive to races.

This last one was HORRIBLE. Do NOT recommend u-Haul trailer for anyone!!! Emergency rental to get to season-opener at Buttonwillow because someone stole my trailer that very morning! U-haul trailer weighed 840-lbs empty! Or about double weight of my previous trailer+bike. And weight distribution was way wrong, putting +400lbs on tongue! Horrible!!!

I purchased a '14 xB three years ago for the sole purpose of towing motorcycles to and from events in the Northeast. U-Haul installed a hitch and I use a cheap, Walmart 5x8 trailer with the air dam (rear gate) removed. I've logged nearly 10,000 towing miles in the last three years without a problem. The trailer is 300 lbs. and the two bikes are under 1000. With a bit of extra gear thrown in the trailer, I'm probably right around 1500 lbs. for the whole rig. Then the back of the car gets crammed full of a weeks worth of camping and riding gear and a copilot. So, yeah, she's pretty maxed out with this load and cruising down the highway at around 70mph yields 20mpg. Which is about perfect for a full tank of gas and a full bladder (approx. 270 miles).

Knock on wood but I haven't had a single problem.
