Short Shifter Install (NST)
 

Here is a pic of the 2008 Scion xD engine bay.

Step 1: remove the engine cover, by gently pulling up on all four corners.

Step 2: locate your shift linkage. it is located below the left front of your battery as seen in the next two pictures.

Step 3: as seen in the last picture there is a cotter pin that you will need to remove.

Step 4: remove the washer that was below the cotter pin, and go ahead and sit the linkage to the right of its stock linkage post.

Step 5: place the NST SSK onto the stock linkage post as shown below.

Step 6: use the stock cotter pin to secure the NST SSK into place

Step 7: place the linkage onto the new post the NST SSK provides.

Step 8: place the stock washer back in place above the linkage.

Step 9: use the new cotter pin provided with your NST SSK to lock your kit in place

Step 10: Go and enjoy your new short shifter and buy yourself something nice with the money you saved with NST compared to the TRD SSK. Do not forget the NST SSK are crafted from 6061-T6 aluminum, individually tested, and then hard anodized: Red, Blue, or Black.

how much does it reduce the throw?

30% shorter shifts. Trust me they are a great improvement. I have 2 xDs in my garage and they are now night and day.

You are very welcome... couldnt resist posting up the most easy DIY install I ever did.

Do you have these for xB1's?

Unfortunately this piece does not fit the first gen xB. We may have something for the xB in the future.

In the mean time, xD and Yaris owners can take advantage of this effective, low budget, modification.

Wow, so that's how that works! Neat, looks 10x easier than the tC SS installs (f*in lock nut) I will definately have to check one of these out.

Has there been any market for physically shrter shifters also?

I have not seen any yet for the xD. There is one available for the Yaris, but 90% of the people in the Yaris community use the NST piece due to a few reasons...

1. The NST piece is priced lower than traditional options.
2. The NST piece installation is much much easier.
3. The Yaris community has realized that their support for NST will lead, and has led, to more products being made available for their platform.

i have their shifter cable bushings and i love them, i've had them since they where first released. (which i believe was summer 06? mike correct me if im wrong haha) they definatly help shifting. feels much more crisp! :D

Yea ... I really prefer your product to the other. That's how the tC's is and I hated it, despite doing it several times and becoming rather proficient at it. I did notice tho, that the shifter housing and the shifter itself are nearly identical to the tC. I'm now wondering if I can just use my left over tC SS as a "cheap" alternative for me. :D

What would that do if I had both short throws? Probably just be hard as heck to shift ....

For those of you with the xD you are going to share many of the benifits of our shared platforms.... The NST SSK is just the first we know 100% fits... I am sure more will come.
I also wanted to add I LOVE my NST SSK, I was just railing though gears and wasting gas for a couple tanks I loved it so much
