I have two wonderful dogs, Rhett and the lovely Miss Scarlett. They are brother and sister and are almost 13 years old. They used to be able to hop into my jacked up Dodge Ram pickup but as they approached their teens, their joints started acting up so I'd have to lift them up and into the truck. Then as I approached 60, my joints started acting up and it was getting harder and harder to lift two 80 pound dogs inside of the truck. That's where Scion entered the picture. I bought an 06' xB1 since it was so low to the ground I figured they would have no problem jumping in to it. 4 years later and Rhett & the lovely Miss Scarlett could no longer jump into the xB1 so I bought a 2020 xB2 and installed a retractable staircase so they could get in and out of the car with dignity. I designed and built a hinge system for the staircase that allows me to retract the stairs and then store them upright at the rear of the xB. There is enough room on either side of the steps so that R&S each has a place to rest when they aren’t drooling all over the side of my car when we go on our daily rides.
