View Full Version : Autocrossin the tC Hat_Trick_Hokie 05-14-2007, 12:09 AM Another autocrossin` tC... (I'm the second car in the video...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvfRaaXV8Gc ack154 05-14-2007, 12:15 AM Wow, that staging line looks a bit close to the racing action in a few of those shots. I'm sure there weren't any problems, but damn. So what class and how did you do? Hat_Trick_Hokie 05-14-2007, 02:08 AM Yea, I was a little worried when I showed up. But no problems. This wasn't an SCCA event. But when I do run them I am in STS. ack154 05-14-2007, 02:11 AM Non-SCCA? Is it just a locally organized type of thing then? Hat_Trick_Hokie 05-14-2007, 02:18 AM Yessir. Well organized if I might say so.. www.capitaldrivingclub.com eboardracer 05-14-2007, 02:27 AM cool...that little dip in the lot near the light pole kinda sucks! good job though! ack154 05-14-2007, 02:07 PM That's cool though that you have a local club outside of SCCA. Events around here are only every couple of weeks - so that would make a good filler for the inbetween weeks. I feel lucky enough that there's an SCCA region here at all. :) Hat_Trick_Hokie 05-14-2007, 07:05 PM Yea, I am in between the Philly and DC SCCA regions, so that is nice. And with all the local clubs in the area we can autocross every weekend! USAFTc07 06-07-2007, 12:24 AM Hey whats up ya'll, Anybody out there from the Kansas City Area? Im rockin a 07 Tc with some exhaust work done nothin fancy, what kinda times and hanling does the thing have? Steve Hat_Trick_Hokie 06-07-2007, 02:47 AM I think it does pretty well. I don't know how much exhaust work is going to do you in an autocross, but you might sounds nice? I saw you post around the site, and pretty much what everyone else is saying holds true. I think some simple suspension work can go a long way with this car. And the stock tires need to go as soon as possible (although mine haven't yet...) I would say the times are based largely on the driver. At one event I was at the slowest time of the day was a 2007 Porsche 911 S, and on the other hand I have been beaten by Civics. But with some component skills the car can do quite well. Since the SCCA puts us in H-Stock class we should have no excuse but to do well... autoxtc 06-12-2007, 04:40 PM wow its real nice to see another tc autoxing... we dont see many of those come out! yup suspension goes a long way with the tc...especially with the horrid understeer...slap on a rear sway bar...some nice springs... and new shoes and your set... you run HS...ive never seen a tc run HS before...i actually run STSL along with another tc that runs STS... and one that came out this past weekend that ran STS as well Hat_Trick_Hokie 06-12-2007, 06:46 PM wow its real nice to see another tc autoxing... we dont see many of those come out! yup suspension goes a long way with the tc...especially with the horrid understeer...slap on a rear sway bar...some nice springs... and new shoes and your set... you run HS...ive never seen a tc run HS before...i actually run STSL along with another tc that runs STS... and one that came out this past weekend that ran STS as well x2 on your comment about the upgrades. But I'm finally trying out something other than stock tires this weekend, we'll see what happens... Well I used to run HS, now with my springs I am in STS, but not in the STSL, I tried but they wouldn't let me in :P . ack154 06-12-2007, 07:04 PM You probably haven't seen one in HS b/c most people that would autox have done something to their cars at that point... I mean even a strut bar would put you into STS, so that's where everyone ends up. Though I think s/c or turbo would put you into SM. I can't wait to run again this weekend. I'm hoping to get some more videos and have a few friends take some pics. Should be a good time. Hat_Trick_Hokie 06-12-2007, 07:28 PM You probably haven't seen one in HS b/c most people that would autox have done something to their cars at that point... I was in HS for almost a year :lalala: ack154 06-12-2007, 07:31 PM Hey, I didn't say everyone... It's probably better to start there anyways so you get a good feel for the car and get used to autox before you start jumping into a more competitive class (which STS certainly is... anywhere you go). My first event was in GS b/c the tC wasn't officially in the rules yet or no one knew where it would be. I still did OK but had springs after that so only the one event was as "stock." Hat_Trick_Hokie 06-12-2007, 07:35 PM It's probably better to start there anyways so you get a good feel for the car and get used to autox before you start jumping into a more competitive class Lol, that was definetly my secondary motive. My first reason is that was I broke  ack154 06-12-2007, 07:37 PM I hear that... the springs were my first real mod and I actually won them in a contest here on SL. I made a bad ___ crossword puzzle. :) So I got lucky even though I was broke. RollthewindowsDown 06-13-2007, 06:35 AM all i have to say is not bad autoxtc 06-13-2007, 04:22 PM I hear that... the springs were my first real mod and I actually won them in a contest here on SL. I made a bad butt crossword puzzle. :) So I got lucky even though I was broke. springs...and a rear sway bar...depending though... if youre a front wheel drive car...you definitely want to stiffen up the rear.... if your a rear wheel...i believe its the other way around...but see i dont own a rear wheel drive car just quite yet... but ummm after springs and rear sway bar...then come the tires...and thats all you really need to be honest...thats all ive got, but no tires yet...and im keeping up with the average... ppl are surprised at stocky cars..whoopin everyones butt out there! rear sway bar on the tc is one of the best things you can purchase....it makes a HUGE difference...doesnt eliminate the roll completely but better than stock! really at autox its not so much the car...its the driver! most people that run their first time...or dont get the concept right away... automatically blame the car for their loss...or even ppl that run everytime but keep losing blame the car...but really it all depends on the driver and their technique... you can have just a stock car and do real well...you as the driver got to learn how to compensate for what you got! you can use what most would consider a disadvantage (such as understeer), to your advantage! theres usually a way around it.... autox is a great way to learn how to drive your car better...learn what your can and cant do in certain situations....and its just fun... there are some ppl that take it hard core seriously...and if they lose its like the end of the world...but for the most of us... we're there to have fun! i do compete for points in the Las Vegas Region SCCA....but im not butt hurt if i dont get a trophy at the end of the year..i learned lots...and had tons of fun! theres always next year! kanundrum 06-13-2007, 04:26 PM I hear that... the springs were my first real mod and I actually won them in a contest here on SL. YUP! you can only do so much with your driving technique...i used to get real frustrated when id be running at an event...with my times dropping slightly every run..but then i hit a wall...either im not driving the car to its full potential yet...or thats as much as my car can take....sometimes the tires just can take anymore... sometimes its because you can cut it just another inch or half an inch to a cone... or maybe your not taking the apex exactly how you should be! there are alot of factors that go into effect when your doing track and or autox. just that inch or two closer to a cone...or that when you take that apex just right can shave off a lot of time! to me 2 tenths or even 1 tenth of a second is a long time.... i compete against another girl in my class and she drives a celica gt... we're always a couple of tenths away from each other...and i know its my driving skill...i can take it alot closer to the cones than i already am... if i look at pictures of her and me in the same corner...she takes it alot closer than i do...something new to improve on! these events.... always have lots of room for improvements...just got to work on them one a at time...i use to be a full 10 seconds away from the girl in the celica...now im just a couple of tenths...it takes time...lots of learning to do http://www.lvrscca.org/?page_id=70 btw the results are in for this weekends run! i ran STSL....beat my boyfriend that runs STS by .2 seconds....there were a few other tC's that ran as well as my roomie that co-drove my car! kanundrum 06-13-2007, 04:42 PM ^^ Yea I know exactly what you mean. I kno i have not reach my cars potential at all and until I do at every single autox event then I know I havent fully learned the capabilities of my car and me as a driver :D autoxtc 06-13-2007, 04:52 PM yeah and plus once youve reached lets say your street tires full potential at every event...maybe its time for some better tires? a change is usually good.... and then of course once again it takes time getting used to something new on the car...it may respond differently..which you got to adapt to... changes are good...but sometimes they could be bad...gotta do some homework before putting some new on the car... sometimes people have the misconception that...if i throw all this on my car... spend all this money on the car...it'll make my car faster...whereas before buying something new you gotta do some research...will spending $ on this or buying this for the car really benefit me...plus people automatically assume that an intake, for example, will add 10 hp to a car... just kuz it says it on the box...and your "butt dyno" makes you FEEL like you just added 10 hp...whereas the only way you'd really know for sure how much power your car has...is to actually DYNO it... i hate it when ppl are like yeah i had 160 hp...threw on an intake and now it has 170 hp... the way i always get them is when i ask..."so do you have the paper from your dyno that says that?" and they always say no it said it adds 10 hp on the box...my reply..then how do you really know it added 10 hp and didnt take it away? plus whatever hp it says on the sticker at the dealership doesnt mean that you actually have that 160 hp.. that 160 is just at the crank...but at the wheels its different....yeah sorry im :blah: hehehe but yeah... throwing on an aem intake on a tc can have different effects than throwing it on a honda or something else... not every car is the same...not ever car will react the same to whatever you do to it...its all different! what could work for someone else's car may not work for your car....i know someone that threw on headers...and intake...and actually lost wheel hp instead of gaining... MrChoyBoi 06-16-2007, 09:10 AM Wait...you mean I dont have 200hp with my I/H/E setup? But I added all the dyno numbers up... I think there is way too much hype over the dyno sheets. And autoxtc is right, it's the driver that makes the difference in autoX. Although having a subie thats spits fire, which I saw firsthand, wouldnt be too bad either. Thats why they say the track is for fast cars, while autox is for fast drivers. :P autoxtc 06-16-2007, 06:10 PM Wait...you mean I dont have 200hp with my I/H/E setup? MrChoyBoi 06-16-2007, 09:55 PM Yea I saw the results. I cant believe that Viper did the course in 53 sec. Thats sooooo sloooooowww... and I was kidding about the 200hp thing. :P So wuts up with the event on the 30th? I havent seen anything on the site. It still says tentative. Good luck on your persuit for a trophy. I think you're gonna get one this year. Sounds like you're close. autoxtc 06-18-2007, 04:50 PM Yea I saw the results. Sounds like you're close. yeah you'd be surprised at how many of the high end cars: vipers, z06's etc etc dont do so well in an autox...they may do better in a track event...but sometimes its the driver... sometimes the course is just too small...it really depends... there was a lambo that came out once and i think he had a hard time with the course since it was sooo tightly packed and the cars are wide so i would imagine it being harder for him to get through a tight course vs. us. hehehe yeah i know you were kidding! new updated on the website www.lvrscca.org check the schedule...we have the permanent dates from now till the end of the year...plus maybe one more event on nov 11 hopefully!!! *crossing fingers* yeah we have an event on the 30th for sure! preregistration is up...hehe i was the first one to register!! heh yippie! so yeah check it out! MrChoyBoi 06-18-2007, 07:39 PM AHH!! I WANT TO GO!!! My friend wants me to help her at anime expo instead. :tap: Well atleast there is an event on July14th. Im definately going to that one. Gives me some time to get rid of my 18's... Perhaps I can not help her and autox instead... ack154 06-18-2007, 07:46 PM http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=180380 :lalala: Hat_Trick_Hokie 06-19-2007, 02:21 AM there was a lambo that came out once and i think he had a hard time with the course since it was sooo tightly packed and the cars are wide so i would imagine it being harder for him to get through a tight course vs. us. I know what you mean. I was at an event with a fairly small course (smaller parking lot) and there was a Noble M400 there. The car looked like some kind of caged lion trying to break free. I just don't think the autocross is a good place for a 200mph track beast. ack154 06-19-2007, 02:35 AM We had a twin turbo Supra at one of our smaller courses 2 yrs ago... he couldn't keep a hold of it. Just not the right course for all the power... either that or the driver was just trying too hard to be a badass or osmething. :) autoxtc 06-22-2007, 04:17 PM yeah...those high end cars are more for track events...but it is pretty surprising when they make it happen on the autox courses.... some drivers can do it and some just cant... we've got a few out here in vegas that make it happen on the course and do real real well for a car thats usually used for track... its nice to see that happen at autox...great cars....great drivers... |
