Default Pass Inspection/Emissions with Turbo in NY

I was talking to a tuning shop about turbo options and they told me there is no way to pass Inspection and Emissions with a turbo. My only option was to pay someone off to get it passed...

Is this true?

I really want a turbo

then i would sugest that you get a kit that is true bolt-on, that you can install and take off yourself. same for exaust. put it on after your next inspection. KEEP ALL YOUR OEM PARTS. and return the car to stock once a year for inspection. also make sure you get a p&p wiring harness for whatever engine management you choose.

...or just bribe some mechanich.

Not always true, if you get a turbo with the inline cat it should pass emissions. Dezod offers one as an add on to their kit.

Might not pass visual inspection.
And I beleive you need the high flow cat AND rerout the wastgate back into the exhaust, but I could be mistaken on that one.

I know from experience, the few places I went, they do not visually inspect the car. It is a plug in OBD2 port pass/fail test. If there is no CEL for anything, you pass. So with a cat on the downpipe and a not-so-stringent shop, you should be fine

Now THAT is what I wanted to hear!!!
But does the can have to be in the downpipe? Can I just get a high flow cat welded into the midpipe?

Would have to be after the primary O2, but before the secondary

Primary is practically on the manifold, secondary is on/near the s-pipe.

So doea that mean a hight flow cat in the down pipe will not help? The only place a cat will help is in the downpipe?
could I just go to a muffler shop and have them weld a cat in the s-pipe? I'm sure in the mid pipe would be easy, but in the spipe seems more difficult.
I would just get your spipe with the cat in it, but I don't think it will fit my turbo toyota's manifold.

The catted DP in our kit will solve the issue.

As long as u have both cats intact n in the stock location I don't see y u shouldn't pass. All they do is plug a scanner into ur obd2 port which reads certain perameters that ur O2 sensor picks up. And as long as the numbers r within the alotted range u pass.

Pau:
I know, but will your catted downpipe match up with TurboToyota's manifold? Cause that's the turbo kit I'm getting.

DriverXa:
All these turbo kits come with an S-Pipe that deletes the cat.

Then you'll have to add some highflow cats then in order to be streetlegal. Or make a removable section that has the cats and swap it in when u have to get inspected

Right, I have no problem putting a cat in. My question is, can the cat go in the mid pipe, or MUST it be in the down pipe?
