Anyone know a company that makes stainless braided brake lines for the XA?

My daughter drove the new XA and the first thing out of her mouth was- "the brakes feel mushy!" She's used to driving our RaceToaster (modified mini van, not your average "breedermobile") and my little BMW (looks pretty stock-it ain't!). Both of which have stainless hoses and racing pads. Great brakes are your friend!!

Just bought the XA 2 weeks ago and have over 1000 mi. on it already and I'm starting to look into modifying it. 17x7 wheels arrived last night and the tires will be here early next week. This puppy needs to go down about 1.5-2". I run Eibachs on the Toaster and BMW with great results, saw a set on ebay for less than $200 delivered, Hmmm......

I don't do body kits/stickers/neon/aluminum wings/fart can exhaust/giant sterio stuff/etc, just real performance modifications=wheels/tires/suspension/braking/HP. If it ain't functional, it ain't going on my car.... Oh yeah, I do all my own fabrication/installation. If you don't know how to do something-LEARN!! Writing checks to a shop to work on your car means YOU didn't modify your car, you just paid someone else to have all the fun!!

So, now you know where this old school motorhead's comming from....

Haven't heard of any braided lines for Scions yet but give it a month or so because once it goes nation wide everyone should be jumping on the bus.....box.....or in your case mini chubster.

Hang tight, I ll have sets available very soon. That along with upgraded brake rotors and upgraded pads. Im hoping by the end of January everything will be available :)

I have big brake kits if you are interested but obviously it is a whole other ball game. 17" wheels are a neccessity with those.

I plan to upgrade the pads to Porterfield R4S when they are avialable. They are Carbon/Kevlar and the best pads I have ever used on a street car. VERY grippy, even when cold, NO dust, and easy to modulate with a firm pedal feel.

Unless you are road racing-as in a real track, larger rotors are not necessary (big cool factor, but not necessary). I may consider larger brakes and rear disks if I buy a 5 speed XA.... could be fun on trackdays or autoX. Sears Point is only 20 minutes away from home and Thunder Hill is about 2 hours or so.

Keep in mind that larger dia. brakes and wheels have acutally shown a HP loss when run on a chassis dyno. Extra rotating weight is BAD!

My Toaster uses only 9.5" rotors, but with stainless lines and R4S pads it will put you through the windshield in hard braking. It does generate a bunch of heat hauling all that weight down. Never tried it on repeated stops but I would guess they would fade fairly quickly.

You are right about most cars not needing the bigger brakes. Stock brakes do pretty well unless really pushed. What i did notice though is that the factory pads are extrememly aggressive eventhough they dont have a high temp rating. They destroy the factory rotors pretty nicely :)

R4s are descent pads but far too much money for what they are. Axxis Ultimates are pretty much the same rating and much much less expensive. I use these on all the spec class cars we work on and they work phenominally.


The only downside you get from upgrading the pads only is the lifespan of the other components. The threshhold on the pads is obviously much higher than the rest of the components the caliper and the rotor start to die a premature death. Believe me , i know, i found that out the hard way from taking my S around ButtonWillow. Now, with the bigger system, it dissipates heat so well that hardly anything wears :)

i have stainless steel braided lines for the scion vehicles and brembo performance rotors crossed drilled and slotted or however you like, I just sold a set of crossed drilled and slotted brembo rotors for a tc for about $180 if anyone is interested please let me know!
