baking your taillights is the way to go.

What kind of paint did you use?

XXLAsian

It shouldn't chip...I have friends who have their tails tinted for the past 3 yrs and no chipping.
As far as paint I believe it's House of Kolors Kandy Black...but I will have to check with Nish...cuz he painted them.

You dont take them apart .. you just take them off the car tape the areas were you dont want to paint(tint) and it is finish.. I've done mine and it was nice and easy.

I'm just curious what people are using! Is the VHT niteshades stuff pretty decent? I just don't want to spray paint some new taillights with no current replacements.

I emailed nish with no reply. :(

I want more of a matte/satin finish like the xB2 that 5axis did in the Siphon magazine. I just like the way it looks. Matches the A and B pillars.

dont ask me on that one, a buddy of mine owed me a favor so he just had his body shop spray mine. but on my past ride (toyota FJ Cruiser) i used some cans of tail light tint (that was the only writing in english on the can) that i picked up from a local import shop and just to get it matte i sprayed a lot of layers with almost no time between them to dry. it came out pretty dang good too

Yep VHT's all I used (3 coats) and it gave me a real nice satiny finish and matches my blackberry crush metallic nicely. Has held up very well and looks awesome too.

I did mine with vht can that i bought of a guy in ebay. My tails came out okay not too smooth but my friend painted his headlight with what was leftover and buffed them and they came out smooth

i myself would never recommend VHT do to the fact that it always comes out satin compared to a stock light gloss look

Boxer_Rebellion

Can't you just clearcoat over them to make a glossy finish?

do they just spray and clearcoat? seems like it would be a pretty easy DIY for cheaper...and no downtime

xseveredveganx
12-28-2007, 04:27 AM
They probably spray them down and clear coat.

I'm sure it's a bit more labor intensive than that, though. If I were to do it myself, I'd wet sand, spray with a cleared down black base coat (not clear coat, but a clear base, yes they make it) then clear accordingly.

It's not like the rattle can VHT niteshades jonstintedtails does. It's quality product. It's nice and glossy. I'm sure you can get similar results if you want to cut corners and get the VHT stuff and some rattlecan clear.

A buddy here at work has a set that JTT did for him. They are awesome looking. They are very glossy and very well done.

As for the ANZO tails. I have some pics, but can not release them yet. I am just waiting on my set to come in from over seas. Soon as they are here I will post pics.

I am wondering if I am reading this right, Nolimitz...... are you hinting that these ANZO lights were designed & sold to go in the Rumion?? Will they have reverse lights in them too?? Thanks for ansering..... jh

You cant and it would be a waste of time. The only way to do 2nd gens is to spray, wetsand, and clear over night shades or tinted clearcoat. very easy todo for the most part. Jonstintedtails i believe does it this way, you can do it cheaper by yourself or send them out if you dont want the hassle

i dont think its illegal to have tinted tails in cali...

CIONIDE
03-04-2008, 08:52 AM
Almost everything is illegal in California that didn't come stock from the factory!

As per California Vehicle Code section 24600, subsection (e):

Taillamps

24600. During darkness every motor vehicle which is not in combination with any other vehicle and every vehicle at the end of a combination of vehicles shall be equipped with lighted taillamps mounted on the rear as follows:

(e) Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all distances within 1,000 feet to the rear.

This means NO TINT even if they're visible more than 1000 feet to the rear.

I know they didn't have super bright LED's when this law was written, but try explaining that to the officer as he writes you the ticket.

Sorry blitz87.

blitz87

ive never been pulled over for tints EVER. not even when i got into an accident or even had a cop sit behind me.

Keep in mind that I was referring to California law, other states tend to be a bit more liberal with their requirements, as well as the enforcement of those laws.

did you have to sand them and did you have to do anything to make them shiny?
