Default Ex- Gen 1 owners.......

Just out of curiousity, ex gen 1 and now gen 2 owners, what did the dealer give you for your trade? What trans did you have and what conditions was your x- box in?

your not going to find alot of those here, so many owners of the gen 1 xb HATE the gen 2 xb with a passion and go on and on about how much the new xb makes them love their old ones more and how much cooler the older one is compared to the second gen etc etc etc.

I was given $12,000 for my old xB. I got a bit hosed sure. But i dont have the time or energy to sell it myself.

My box was a 06.5 with 12.5k miles on it. They also transferred my free oil changes for life plan from my old box to my new one. neat

They gave me $13k for mine. It had its bumper repainted three times (none were my fault.....).

Also had 9k miles on it. I had them remove my muffler, intake, and headers and sold them all on ebay. They would not have given me a cent for them. I kept my wheel covers and original shift **** too... (oops).

Either way, 13k was what I paid as a down payment on the gen 1 xB so I got my down payment back. I basically rented the car for 11 months.

I dunno. KBB says around $14K to $15K. But I just searched eBay motors completed listings for 2006 xB and the highest price I could find that someone actually paid for one was $11K! Seems many listings are bidding higher but never reaching the reserve. Maybe the best thing is to try to sell it locally.

Mine was completely totalled. Nothing from the dealer but 9,000 from insurance company after they paid off a 5,000 $ Loan on the old one. Bought for 16,000 1 year ago and got 9,000$ plus loan payoff. I think it was a great settlement.

I'm looking to trade my 04 box in on an 08, my box is a manual and in pristine condition, not a dent or scratch anywhere, with relatively low miles. I went into the Scion dealership last week and asked what they'd give me ... they said they could do $6,500! Reason was they said a manual transmission is a tough sell and it will probably sit on the lot for a while. I was ready to order that day and I told them that lowball offer just killed this deal.

I didn't want to deal with the hassle, but I guess I'll try a private party sale because I know I can get at least a few grand more than what the dealer offered.

Just got my 08XB last week, anyway..

I'm a former Volkswagen GTI owner. You may have seen that the GTI received a major overhaul this year. It's a completely new car, and very different looking then the out-going model. Same thing happened over in that crowd. The old time GTI owners couldn't believe that VW was going to streamline their car.

In the end the new GTI is WAY better then the old car, I even dare to say that it looks a whole lot better now too. And now, 9 months after it's been on the roads the old vs. new debate is all but a memory.

Cars evolve, cars change and often cars improve. You will never be able to stop this cycle. I love my new XB. It's a very nice car. And really I could care less what the old style owners think of it. Truth is, it's probably a vastly improved automobile, and yes the style is still way out there from anything else on the road.

I agree.

The new xB is dimensionally very similar to the new Rabbit/GTI (I've mentioned on here before that curb weight, length, width, even engine displacement and fuel economy are very close).

I also think that the styling of the new xB, especially the wide D pillar, is similar to previous Golfs/GTIs - even going all the way back to the original Rabbit. Although the new Rabbit has toned down the boxiness.

Did any of this factor into your decision to get the new xB?

I know this is OT, but what do you think of them offering a 4-door version of the GTI now?

Traded in my 06 Salsa Red xB (10,500 miles) and the dealer gave me $14k-plus for it. I've only had the car for about 10 months and I couldn't wait to get the 2nd Gen... My Scion agent is totally cool..

A few days ago, some stupid old guy in an old-style GTI plowed into the back of my old-style xB after I gave him the finger.

Discuss.

I got $10,200 for my 2005 Blue Onyx Auto, which was not too bad considering I had 60,000 miles on it.

I got $9800 for my 05 XB with 47,000 miles and couple of scratches on it. I thought it was a decent offer.
