Added some $5 cathodes to the foot wells of my xA...
Sorry for the lack of pics, my camera is missing at my friend's house...will take pics ASAP though.
I'm sure I'm not the first one to do it, but I thought I'd post about it and see what you all think.
I bought some of these on a recent discount-computer-part-shopping-spree:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...K12BL2&cpc=SCH
It's powered by a 12v (yellow) and the ground (black). I wired the 12v and the ground directly to the cigarette lighter. The whole installation took about 5 minutes and I can take the entire kit out in less time.
I have the on/off switch (included with the kit) tucked behind the dash, and I just have to reach by my foot to toggle the lights. The cathodes are bright enough to be noticed but not too bright to be obnoxious. The bulbs are also completely hidden and are held on with velcro.
It only cost me $5 (plus shipping, but I bought a whole lot of other stuff) and the end result looks great.
Here's how i did it:
I took the silver trim off and pulled out the cubby under the cigarette lighter.
I unscrewed the cigarette lighter and stripped off some of the insulation from the 2 wires going to the lighter.
The black/white wire is the ground, and the grey is the hot (12v). I snipped the molex adapter off the lighting kit and stripped enough wire to tap into the exposed wires on the cigarette lighter.
Using electrical tape, I wrapped the wires up and gave them a little tug to make sure they were secure.
I routed the two cathodes' wiring from where I wanted to place them under the dash through the opening behind the cigarette lighter.
At the very back of the dash I velcro'd the blue power box and connected the two cathodes to the power box.
I routed the power switch behind the dash and bent the metal brace into a U-shape and have it tucked behind the dash next to my right foot.
I tucked the wires behind the cigarette lighter and reassembled the dash.
Very quick and easy installation. It all looks stock!
I'll have more pics of how it looks and where everything goes once I get my camera back.

Hey dude,
good job on this mod. yeah, there are tons of people who have done what you did and there are other writeups on here but im glad that yours went well. i put in cathodes a couple of months back int he footwells of my xB and i love them! they're not the brightest in the world but when it is pitch black outside, they light up the interior pretty nicely ;]
now you should put some LEDs in your cupholders if your car doesn't have that option. directions are on SL here somewhere!
i have pics of my cathode+ led setup here: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...t=winter+drove
cheers,
