View Full Version : Oil change interval Poll djct_watt 10-06-2004, 03:47 AM When do you do your oil changes (after your first one)? mikochu 10-06-2004, 04:00 AM fixed, dj! I try to get my oil changed every 3000 miles...or at least try to...give or take 100 miles... Scion05BOPxB 10-06-2004, 10:08 PM I don't have my xB yet... but I plan to use AMSOIL (as in my other cars) and use the extended drain intervals. Probably run about 12-15k (instead of the 25k AMSOIL allows). Alan 10-06-2004, 10:18 PM I do the 5k intervals with Mobil 1 synthetic and a K&N filter since I can never find the Mobil 1 filters. tcm_xB 10-09-2004, 07:24 PM 7,000 mile oil changes with Mobil 1 5w-30 and OEM filter. My first oil change was done @ 2k! kwicslvr 10-09-2004, 09:03 PM 5k. Oils nowadays really don't need to be changed out before that unless you are off roading. squirrel 10-09-2004, 10:13 PM I go every 5k and could prolly go 7k since its 98% highway mileage anyway. DibujoB 10-09-2004, 10:21 PM I hit it up ever 5000 miles. Sometimes I'll get lazy and do it at like 5500, but always as close to what the manual recommends as possible. TheScionicMan 10-09-2004, 10:25 PM I go every 5k and could prolly go 7k since its 98% highway mileage anyway. Yeah. No need to waste that gunk and send mo $ to the Middle East... superjeer 10-10-2004, 02:50 AM why change oil? That stuff has been around for millions of years. Being in my car for a few more isn't going to hurt it. davematic 10-10-2004, 03:04 AM i change mine every 3000 with synthetic mobil 1 . i know it may sound excessive but i managed an oil change center for a while and have seen a lot of wear on motors. i drive my car hard so id rather be safe than sorry . hope that helps kwicslvr 10-10-2004, 01:25 PM why change oil? He had a goodly mileage on it when it froze up. Turns out he had never changed the oil. Only added when necessary. And I think that engine had no oil filter. The oil pan was full of truly thick sludge. The fellow was a loony in many ways I thought. You can run without changing oil. For a while. its_ikon 10-11-2004, 01:03 AM unless you are driving in crazy conditions you can go to 7500 miles. i do 5000 miles because all my oil changes are free. i would do go to 6000 or even 7000 if i had to pay for them. doing any oil change prior to the 5k mark is just throwing away money. cars are more effecient these days superjeer 10-11-2004, 01:21 PM yeah, I did my first at 1.5K, replaced with synthetic. THen gagain at 7.5K. Next will be at 15K. I drive 100 miles a day and don't race, so 7.5K IS what the factory suggests for me, plus the synthetic should help get the extra miles out. Speaking of which, I should check mine to make sure it doesn't smell funny. bB2NER 10-11-2004, 10:49 PM [quote="superjeer"]yeah, I did my first at 1.5K, replaced with synthetic. THen gagain at 7.5K.
