i'm having the same problem. infinity 475 amp, infinity kappa comps, infinity perfect 10 sub, and d3, and not sounding too hot. i've tried everything. getting ready to sell it all if i can't work something out.
dont give up yet! ill admit this deck is a butt to tune, but just play a high quality song that has good highs and lows and tune the EQ to the way you like. it took me a good 2 weeks to finally tune it the way i wanted to sound (alot of it was driving it with one setting, then tuning it again, then drive, then tune, etc). Black Eyed Peas' Monkey Business was mastered really well, and I like using it as a test/ tune cd.
I tried putting the song in a 320kbps format and when I played the song it still sounded horrible. I have 3 amps 2 600 watt alpine amps for the subs and 1 400 4channel for the speakers. I heard this same song on my cousins acura mdx and he has his system connected to his stock hu. there are some songs that sound great but there a few songs that sound horrible, I feel my subs are about to blow
I have the exact same setup.
Where are your gains, db, and frequency set at?
what is you subwoofer output set to on the D3?
What is you HPF set at on the D3?
You should be able to run that system, playing MP3s and get close to the point of not being able to sit in hte car at full volume. And have no issues with blowing speakers.
Post up where everything is set.

what happens is that when you rip a song at let's say 128kbps from a CD then it loses it sound fidelity since it is compressed so much. then if you re-encode the file to 320kbps, you are just making that 128kbps file bigger, but the true fidelity of the song is still lost. 320kbps is the highest i've seen mp3s go, and they maintain very very close to cd quality (pretty neglible imo).
also, what does your EQ look like? Your HPF and LPF? Staging? Loudness (yes this GREATLY contributes to sound quality)? what is your source?
and about playing the same song in your friends stock system MDX and his sounding better. Since you are running a system such as that, you have the ability to hear frequencies and tune things that the MDX cannot and therefore Honda/Acura automatically gives it a colored (tuned) tone that will make most songs sound good with the stock sound system. a great example of this would be our tCs with the stock headunit. the HU gave any song alot of color and brought out the frequencies that would make the sound system sound really good, even if it is stock. so all is not lost! keep on trying to tune and good luck! :D

running the d3 with an Alpine MRP-M650 amp pushing 400w into a 12" CVR. stock speakers all around. and its surprising how good they sound..
i usually play hip hop (old school), some freestyle and a little bit of rock (green day, etc).

any more questions just post it

i dunno about you.. but sound is a personal taste. Going by what someone else posts just means you're going by what THEY like. I honestly don't like too much bass, but i don't like too much treble either. Just play with it til you find a setting you like..
