I disagree with some of your comments on the styling, but that is a subjective topic, so I will hold off. I don't think the mileage difference is 5 mpg. The tests show a difference of 3-4 mpg, and real world numbers seem consistent with that.

The only other complaint I have is the overuse of cliché, metaphor, simile, and the overly informal tone of the article. It seemed like you were trying to imitate the witty quips of Car and Driver, but falling short.

I did like the pug comparison though, it was well executed.

Wow, that was a difficult read. Trying way too hard to be clever. Especially the self-congradulatory idea about a xB1 motor swap... does the author ever read these forums? Doubtful.

I'm sick of this "put the gauges where they belong" attitude...

I truly believe that having the setup the xB has (and had) is superior to having to look though the steering wheel.

Thats all nonsense. Having it in your field of view in the manner the xB has it is good. Its kind of like a HUD.

I think that every second gen owner will disagree with your "negatives", and most first gen owners will agree with your "negatives". Nothing new here.

Let's face it gang. Toyota is in the business of doing one thing. Making money. That's it, plain and simple. They softened the xB so it would appeal to a larger audience. Does it alienate first gen owners? Some, yes. But if it appeals to a larger group who will open their checkbooks. That's all that matters. I am a prime example. I wouldn't be caught dead in a first gen. I think it's hideous. But that's me. The first gen just isn't for me. I don't care for the styling. And I think the second gen is great looking. Toyota redesigned the car for people just like me, like it or not.

And for those who write that sales are lagging, I say give it time. The car is three months old. I haven't seen one paper or TV ad. The car will catch on. Sales will increase. Toyota will make money. And that's all that matters.

Default another review..

autoblog review posted today...

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/23/i...2008-scion-xb/

the same "i know what everyone likes in car attitude..". Although there are some points that i agree with especially around the clock/temperature/trip display. Why do i need to keep hitting the dial everytime i want to see the temperature outside? Not that i want to do it every second..but i would like to see the temperature display seperate from the clock..

the second review within the article was an older one from AOL....

You can add me to the long and growing list of current and future XB2 owners who would never consider owning a XB1. The XB1 is too ugly, too underpowered and simply too JDM for the USDM.

I agree with the above ^^

I also feel the gauges are superior to the "standard" gauges. Compared to EVERY other car I have driven, when I check the speed/fuel/etc... It is much more distracting by far. On the xB, it flows right into your field of few, plus the analog display makes it even easier. Much more beneficial IMO.

it is kinda surprising to me that a lot of younger drivers did not like the original xB - just goes to show how individual tastes can be for car design!

as for myself, i like 'em both!

I thought the old xB was the nastiest thing on the road for the longest time. I went to the dealer, looked RIGHT at the new xB and never thought that was it (let alone know it was redesigned for 200 and asked him to see any used "box cars" and he led me right to it, haha (no used on the lot of the old one) and I was shocked. Totally dug the look and the inside was even better... Funny how I looked right at it and never clicked... But it made for a good suprise!

After I bough my xB, I slowly start gaining respect for the old one, although I still think they look silly, I like them now. But I must say, bone-stock on the new xB looks MILES better then the old xB stock. However, once customized can really balance and both look great IMO.

I still prefer 2nd gen over 1st gen, but I don't have any hate or disgust like I did before at all! Much respect, haha.
