Default Barely Legal

This is my tC, "Sex on Wheels" a.k.a. "The TintMobile" a.k.a "Always getting pulled over by the cops":

After getting pulled over 3 times in the last 3 days, this is just getting ridiculous. I have been faced with a dilemma in recent days. Temperatures have been been reaching 112+ degrees and I was forced to put the windows up to avoid dying from the heat. I usually have them down to avoid cops. Anyway, I got another fix-it ticket a few days ago and I have been pulled over by the LAPD each day since then. The good thing is that they can't issue multiple tickets for the same thing, so I just showed them my current ticket and they let me go.

Anyway, it was fun for a while but it's just getting stupid. Time to grow up I guess. As much as I hate to do it, I am going to the tint shop next week to go lighter, much lighter. I am still going to have tint all around, including the windshield, but it will just be for the purpose of blocking heat. I hope it will also look cool, but I don't want any attention from the cops anymore.

California law basically says anything on the back and nothing on the front. I need to aim for something which will be barely legal. Obviously the fronts will be illegal, but if they are light enough then it will go unnoticed. I was wondering how much tint I could get away with, and I was hoping to hear some stories of "my tint is xx% and I have never been pulled over". Pics would be nice too. I need to decide how much lighter to go. I was thinking 50% all around. Thoughts? Another option is to keep the rear three windows dark and lighten up the front three. Also, is the level of heat-blocking capacity directly tied to how dark the tint is? Or does all tint block the same level of heat?

Btw, it's 18% all around right now.

well i see why already. you tinted the front windshield. no one ever does that. I know people get away with 35 in the front but i never seen anyone get away with anything done in the windshield.

Cali car laws are about as stupid as any I have ever seen and would be enough on their own to keep me from living there. However, tint will get you in a lot of places, and the windshield will anywhere. Even in my home town, where they would ignore even limo tint, they wont let you get by with windshield tint.

Car looks nice, but good idea getting lighter tint. I don't like giving the nosy cops a reason to pull me over and get into my business, so no illegal tint for me.

The owner of the shop where i got my tint said barely passing would be around 35% which is what i have in my fronts. Otherwise, I have limo in the back. I could bring you to the shop. they do a pretty decent job for a very decent price. Its on rosemead off the 10. Im actually gna be heading there on tuesday morning.

To all the comments about the windshield, I should add that I have never received a ticket for the windshield tint. My tickets have always been for the front sides.

Tint to dark in cali... your asking to be ____ed with. I dunno what the complaints about when the cops main priority is getting after illegally modified imports. Heaven forbid they work an actual traffic violation...

well, as what has everyone said... do not tint your windshield... i have limo tint in the back and my fronts are dark... never got pulled over... also, you not having a front license plate will also give it away... you might want to put that on before you get another ticket for totally something else.

Tinting the windshield was dumb, and you should remove your front tint all together, anything you tint the front passenger windows with will be illegal. I've been dealing with the same 112+ heat, you gotta learn how to deal with it without tint or move to another state... especially this weekend because it is a "maximum enforcement" period.

And yes, they can issue multiple tickets for the same violation for not following an officer's instructions to remove the tint, LAPD was being "nice" to you. Don't drive on the freeways until you get the tint removed or CHP will have a field day with you.

Well, the first ticket came with a 6-week timeframe in which to remove the tint, and the other officers after that just told me to take care of it before the date on the first ticket. It doesn't make sense to issue multiple fix-it tickets, and they can't give me any other charges for not following orders when the ticket is still well within the time limit. I am not scared about driving on this "maximum enforcement" weekend, because the ticket I currently have gives me 6 weeks of immunity from more tint tickets.

There is no way I will remove the tint completely. The windshield stays and the side windows stay. They will just be much lighter this time.

There is no 6-week grace period or immunity, I've seen that argued in court and the judge said exactly what I said to you. If you get pulled over again, especially by a different law enforcement agency, the officer can issue another ticket and mark it "uncorrectable" meaning your fine will go from $15-$20 to over $300.

Hmmm, suppose I better keep the windows down. Well, like I said, I'm going to get it taken off in a few days. And after I get my violation corrected then I'll be getting something like 50%. The cops never pull people over for that.

Ok first, please do not tell me that your windshield is tinted at 18%!? Is it?

If so, you really need to rethink some things. Anyway, moving on. I had a civic that I just sold that was black on black with 20$ all the way around and never got messed with by the popo. Although I also didn't have my front windshield tinted.

Just change your sides to 35-50, get that crap off your windshield because it makes everything look that much darker, and heaven forbid you get into an accident your insurance will NOT cover you.

It is and has been for about 7 months now. My last car had the windshield tinted for more than 3 years without issue. I'm not in the habit of causing accidents, so insurance is not a concern.

Well the main reason you can't tint the windshield is that so cops can see what you are doing... What if some dude has mass guns in his hands??? Can't see, can't do anything.
