We had this debate before when I was first showing off my ride here. The front-side and windshield laws are for the safety of the cops, so they can see inside the vehicle. That's the official word from the cops themselves.

Well, I took my tC to the tint shop today. I had them remove the 18% from the windshield and the front sides, and replace it with 50%. Now I have 18% on the back three and 50% on the front three.
I feel a sense of loss.
But at least I won't get pulled over every day.

I HEAR YA bro , i have 5% all around and nothing on the front but because the darkness or the other windows it looks like the front is tinted , so im always getting pulled over. im prolly just gonna end up taking them off all toghther , one less ticket i gotta worry about.
wtf? i have 5% all around and my windshield doesnt look tinted AT ALL.
i had 5% all around and 20% on the windshield made it 3 weeks before a ticket for the windshield (once im off probation imma put a chrome 30% back on it)
i had a suburban with 5% all around and chrome 30% on the windshield for 2.5 years with no issues... now grated that is all in arkansas and the cops dont care about this kinda thing...
when i was in Florida with my suburban i had 15% all around and a clear windshield with no issues for 1.5 years

I live here in Houston,Tx and while I had my Lancer for th past 2 years I had 20% all the way around except the windshield and got pulled over multiple time by state troopers and other law enforcement divisions and they never said anything about my tint, ever...and it was a light colored car, so it stood out...
How the hell can you even see at night if your windshield is tinted...I have a 6'' strip of 5% on the windshield and cant imagine my whole windsheild tinted that. But the tint on the windshield if illegal for driver safety and for officer safety. hence why in jersey you will fail inspection if you have any tint on your windshield and front driver & passenger windows.
I personally have my front two windows at 25%, to match the rear, But if I were in your position, I'd do 35% for the windshield, 25% for the doors, and 5% in the rear... That way from a distance, you'd look 99% more legal, but would still have all-around tint.
Most states will allow darker tint if you can provide a prescription from a doctor for some sort of medical reason. I asked my eye doctor and he gave me a slip for 20% due to "increased light sensitivity". Next time you go in, it can't hurt to ask. The worst they can do is say no. You can also get one from a dermatologist if you have a "skin condition"
Well, you guys above talking about Arkansas, Florida, and Texas - those are basically the most lenient states in the country when it comes to window tint.
Creektrack, 20% in TX is just 5% away from being legal. Try bringing that car to Cali, where the law is not 25%, but 100%.

Actually, most states don't allow for medical exemptions. California is one of those states that says "we don't care if you have a medical condition or not". Believe me, I tried the whole "light sensitivity" route. No go.

35% will not get you pulled over anywhere. Any tint on the windshield, however, will.
I don't even know why you would tint your entire windshield, and not just get a sun shade tint on the top part of it. Sure, it looks cool, but I definitely don't want you driving behind me at night when it's raining.

you can get pulled over for 35% in california. I tinted a toyota corolla with a light colored interior 35% all the way around. When i was done it looked like i did nothing. She just recently got pulled over by Sheriff for her front windows. (35%)
