depends on how you drive and how much you drive...
nothing dependent on time man... a guy can go for 10 years on the same brake pads... ya know?
you can definitely go another year... NO problem at all.
i've seen people push close to 40K without needing to change them... and then others who last for like 15-20K..
it's where you really have to look and check your pads yourself.

yeah, don't worry, the car will let you know when you need new pads. i was at about 34 thousand before i had to change my brake pads.
i had my car inspected by my mechanic whom i trust and he said i have very little life left on my brake pad.
I am at 10k miles!!!!
I have no clue how they wore so fast...i have never autocrossed and i have only raced around a few mountain roads but i know how to downshift to save brakes....im confused...
Does the brake light come on when accelerating if you need to change your pads?

yeah, 10k is ridiculous on a set of street pads. Normally the times I have seen that, they werent worn down, they had crystalized and fallen apart because the driver drove with their foot resting the brake pedal all the time, overheating the pads.
It is normal as well for the fronts to wear first. Most of the braking is done with the front brakes.

it means that the brake fluid is low, most likely because the pad has worn down and the level of the fluid went with it. Replace the pad watch the fluid level increase (pad pushing caliper piston back further, increasing fluid into reservoir).
yeah definitely look at your pads, see what the thickness is. and also check the cap on the brake fluid reservoir, maybe it wasn't on there tight enough causing fluid to come out.
if the pads have a good amount (greater than 2mm of thickness) of thickness on them, then yeah add some brake fluid. But the big question is, why did you lose fluid.. hmm.. not sure about that, let us know about the thickness and the fluid cap
