View Full Version : Borla mars23z 09-17-2007, 07:34 PM Hi was just wondering if anyone has installed the Borla sytem for the 2008 xB? I want to buy one I am hoping its not a real loud system. Let me know what you guys think of it. Thanks Mars23z Whispaz 09-17-2007, 07:51 PM i doubt anyone has yet Zsanz 09-17-2007, 07:55 PM what else is out there becides the TRD ? mars23z 09-17-2007, 08:02 PM Here is the link http://borla.com/applications/lookup.aspx/2008/Scion/xB/T-304_Stainless_Steel_Rear_Section/11756/ At least with Borla its gonna be great quality and looks, and I dought it will sound like a bumbble bee. Anyway it looks like I am buying one so Ill let you guys know. ScionFred 09-17-2007, 08:24 PM The price is right. I paid $375 shipped for my TRD which was too much, IMO. Oh well, I like the TRD tip better so I guess I got something for the extra $100. AIC_GCS-EVxb2 09-17-2007, 08:27 PM i own the car that Borla used to design & test fit the rear section exhaust system. i have the prototype installed on my car. The exhaust is very quite on idle but when you accelrate past 3000 rpm.... u get a good exhaust note. hear are some photos: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b37/edwinAIC/borla-08scionxB1.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b37/edwinAIC/borla-08scionxB2.jpg i'll try to create a video clip of the sound of the exhaust BTW...Borla has developed a dual exhaust rear section system. i'm waiting if they decide to produce production. I've seen the prototype and was fitted on my car, i liked it and what to switch to dual exhaust. itsyounotme 09-17-2007, 09:53 PM Looks good,..does it sound like the tC Borla exhaust? chadfo 09-18-2007, 01:23 AM It looks ok. I like the round rectangle tip on the TRD better. I'm curious to hear the sound though. Zsanz 09-18-2007, 01:52 AM SAME. rdfxb 09-18-2007, 06:39 AM Don't tell me this because my trd one arrived today and i'm putting it on wed batwing 09-19-2007, 05:58 PM I'm going to wait until other companies release the exhausts. If it sounds the same as the tC (cant see why not ) than im gonna place my order. Is there any pic's to show how the Dual kit looks on the XB 2??? bb_ist 10-23-2007, 06:28 PM hmm, u think its impossible for our xb's to expose the canister? I think mufflers look great with the canister, not with just some piping sticking out.. Just my opinion... SiXX 10-26-2007, 09:00 AM Anyone else notice that this exhaust is just a pipe that replaces our rear canister? :eyebrow: Zsanz 11-01-2007, 01:50 PM any new word on this? is the dual exhaust going to go into production ???!??! Those are some awsome pic's  , Kit looks sweet. I just wanna know how they sell a kit with no muffler just pipes for $499.99. How is it gonna sound? Do we even need the muffler? chadfo 11-04-2007, 04:27 PM I started it and it is pretty quiet with a pretty low tone. It didn't get very loud when I revved it. I didn't get to hear it moving. I think between 2 cats and a resonator there's not much sound left to muffle. sdsnybny 11-04-2007, 05:06 PM the install pdf from there site shows no muffler just pipes http://www.borla.com/media/installations/11757.pdf coryjames 11-04-2007, 05:35 PM we have came to that conclusion but wonder how loud it is hmmmmmmm audio file any one? I like the way it looks but it may be a little to load for me. chadfo 11-11-2007, 01:24 AM I checked out the Borla dual last weekend. It is not as loud as it sounds in that video. killerxromances 11-11-2007, 01:30 AM eh, it looks like crap if you ask me. The style of the exhaust tips don't fit the rear or flow with the rest of the car, they stand out like a sore thumb. Not to mention, you are paying $500+ for an exhaust kit with minimal gains, for around $100 more you can have a custom full exhaust, better gains and have it flow better with the car as well. SiXX 11-11-2007, 08:19 PM eh, it looks like crap if you ask me. The style of the exhaust tips don't fit the rear or flow with the rest of the car, they stand out like a sore thumb. I have to agree. I love Borla as a company and have religiously used their products in the past, but this exhaust just doesn't look right. A flat-back vehicle with two big, round tips coming out the back..... i dunno, personal preference says "ewww". Elihercu51125 11-29-2007, 02:58 AM I just got a new 08 XB with the Borla dual exhaust from factory and it looks and sounds great. Well worth the money!!! Would it not have the same effect? Thoughts? Beezer30 12-31-2007, 07:52 PM What is the volume level INSIDE the car with the TRD exhaust installed? She said 5-7 Buisness Days. SO if all goes well. ill have a vid up in around 10 days. silvrxb 02-02-2008, 05:40 AM sounds like you ordered from borla. Does that mean you paid $450 for your dual? silvrxb 02-02-2008, 06:48 PM WOO HOO!!I ordered my Borla Dual from TRDSparks. Now I have to get rid of that exhaust tip I bought (dont ask why i bought that b/c i dont really know) Zsanz 02-02-2008, 07:37 PM yes. it does mean i dropped 450 lol...hopefully money well spent silvrxb 02-02-2008, 07:40 PM I bought mine for $350 at trdsparks and they have them instock. Mmmmm... ATxB 02-08-2008, 01:56 AM that would sound pretty good, idk what the tips look like. will it be a dual exhaust? xseveredveganx 02-08-2008, 02:00 AM that would sound pretty good, idk what the tips look like. will it be a dual exhaust? Oh yeah. Duals for sure http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y258/xseveredveganx/35121a.jpg They're 4" which I thought would be a little large. But the stock reverse light is about 4" in diamater. So it may look alright. They're angle cut and dual wall. ATxB 02-08-2008, 04:10 AM That is gonna looks sweet. I like the tips cincinfocal 02-08-2008, 04:30 PM man someone has to go and get a sound clip of theirs...and preferably a rear shot of the whole car to show how this exhaust looks like proportionally...im dyin to get an exhaust and these things will make or brake my purchase... silvrxb 02-08-2008, 05:17 PM decided to get professional install so I will have a couple videos up on Saturday. (Takes youtube a long time to upload a video less than a minute long) http://youtube.com/watch?v=1y8dp7Vx1xk ATxB 02-10-2008, 11:38 PM that sounds really deep on start up, is it me or the video? Zsanz 02-11-2008, 12:38 AM no its deep on startup AAG 02-11-2008, 02:06 AM Is it raspy at all? Sounded good at idle and low rpms but I couldn't really tell what it sounded like at high rpms. I really didn't like the looks of this exhaust but its been growing on me (especially the dual tips). cincinfocal 02-11-2008, 02:08 AM im kinda liking this a lot at the momen :D are the tips centered in the back? or is one side closer in than the other...can someone post a pic? silvrxb 02-11-2008, 02:51 AM Not really raspy. Has a pretty crisp sound if you will. Also just reposting a good pic of a dead center shot to answer the question about the sides. Seems to be even to me. I'm glad my xb doesnt have those stupid dealer stickers on the back. http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/204/204797/folders/147601/2240079BorlaDuals.jpg cincinfocal 02-11-2008, 03:00 AM its either this or the trd...now im just wondering how this would respond to the removal of the middle resonator/cat as the trd has been prooven to sound real nice :D silvrxb 02-11-2008, 02:39 PM not sure what you mean but the borla is just straight piping. Zsanz 02-11-2008, 03:01 PM the engine noise at high rpms make more noise then the exhaust in cabin. but look at the vid ATxB 02-11-2008, 03:51 PM Would it make it louder outside the cab if i replaced my big pre cat with a straight pipe? Zsanz 02-11-2008, 11:19 PM less restrictive= more flow= loulder? i say yes! MikeInABox 02-12-2008, 03:42 AM Can someone get a side shot? I'd like to see how the tips sit in relation to the bumper. Are they flush, stick out, or in a little? ATxB 02-12-2008, 05:18 AM im gonna have to do that, looks and sounds great man Zsanz 02-19-2008, 05:28 PM virtually flush might stick out 2/8ths of a inch if anything RoboX 02-22-2008, 06:01 AM Just got mine on! sounds really good! nice and deep at lower rpm and at higher it kinda goes away and i love it no drone (ok very lil) what i love about it most it has the look w/out the riced out tin can sound! AAG 02-22-2008, 03:06 PM Thats great thanks for the info RoboX! Where did your purchase your borla exhaust from? Did you have any fitment issues? D_Unit 02-22-2008, 04:33 PM Any of you guys that have the Borla exhaust installed have automatics? Would it be stupid to get one if I have an automatic? AAG 02-22-2008, 05:01 PM Why do you think it would be stupid to get one if you have an auto? Unless you're are looking for HUGE power gains then yes, but if you want a better sound and look than stock go for it! I'm really thinking about getting one for my XB2. RoboX 02-22-2008, 08:26 PM i only got it to fill the hole in the 5axis kit. purely for looks. i got mine from trdsparks came fast cheapest place that i found 300 and something dollars cheaper then msrp. i had some trouble putting it on with out airtools at my friends place so i went home to do it. much easier. if you do it your self takes 20 min make sure you put some wd40 in the bushings much easier to get the hooks off and back on again fitment at first was ok the left side stuck out a lil further then the right side. i didnt put the pipe far enough into the other one so i just loosened a bolt moved it back done and done. who cares if you have an auto. GET IT! hahah looks and sounds good in my books. D_Unit 02-22-2008, 08:37 PM I'm really don't care for power gains, just want it to look good, and most importantly, don't want it to sound obnoxious. This is my fiance's car, but I like to fix it up for fun since my ride is already modified how I like it. Yo RoboX, let's see some pics. I wanna see the 5 Axis rear mated with these dual pipes. If I can convince the wifey of the exhaust, then I'm going to try to sneak in the rear Bomex lip in back since it has dual outlets too... :P RoboX 02-22-2008, 10:34 PM ill take pics asap AAG 02-22-2008, 10:39 PM And a vid would be great too :) RoboX 02-22-2008, 11:06 PM i dont have a vid camera. but there are sound clips for the borla out there. and to me it sounds nothing like that in person it sound more like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDTL2m_yVws Zsanz 02-24-2008, 01:50 AM theres a vid link earler in this post RoboX 02-25-2008, 05:56 AM yeah but it sounds different in person. i vid clip makes it sound ricey Beezer30 03-03-2008, 12:18 AM We have heard some sound clips now of the Borla dual set-up. I am not 100% sold on the "real life" sound of the exhaust based on you tube clips. For you guys that have heard these exhausts in person, would you say rice or not? I want something that you can hear but not something that sounds like a civic trying to be a rocket. Also, are there is any sound differences in tone and volume level between the single pipe vs. duals? I like the borla set up because I am not interested in having a giant can underneath and the borla's hide nicely. Feedback and opinions will be grately appreicated. Ben joluis 03-05-2008, 01:41 AM is there any single exhaust sound clips of the borla exhaust. Beezer30 03-07-2008, 03:21 PM I guess this topic is dried up. Zsanz 03-07-2008, 03:28 PM i would say it is not rice and i have not heard the single pipe but i know it is only 5db loulder then stock compared to the 9db that the dual is Beezer30 03-07-2008, 05:59 PM Thanks for your reply and your video. Two other questions.... How much has the volume increased inside the cabin at normal driving speeds? This is a question my wife will ask. Also, does this install void any warranty from Toyota? Thanks again for your help. Ben RoboX 03-08-2008, 01:04 AM i honestly barely hear the exhaust from inside my car. at higher rpm i hear my intake more then exhaust. i was surprised how quiet it really is given the fact it has no muffler. sound clips dont do any justice to the exhaust. it sounds nothing like it in person. i love the sound. but i do wish it was a hair louder haha and trust me im not a fan at all with loud exhaust. i drive a lot of freeway and hate the sound of droning. SiXX 03-08-2008, 08:56 AM You guys do realize that this same sound can be achieved by simply going to an exhaust garage & having them fabricate a dual exhaust for you... correct? I mean, I'm not trying to put ya'll down, but why are you spending this kind of money on an exhaust that consists of nothing but stainless pipes & borla tips???? Hell, if it's the tip design that you like, then just buy the tips & let the shop put them on their custom setup for you. You'll save quite a bit of $$$. The pipes aren't creating the sound you all seem to be enjoying... it's the scuba-tank resonator and LACK of a muffler. RoboX 03-08-2008, 09:41 AM true but then i would have to take the time out of my life and go there. and will end up costing 150-200 for just the pipes and bending it. another 70 or so for the tips so all and all roughly 300 + taking it to the shop. id rather spend a lil more have it shipped to my house. + i guess borla uses some type and stainless i dunno. i could care less Beezer30 03-08-2008, 08:34 PM I gotta agree with Robox.... Sorry my cross eyed mod master. sp2 03-17-2008, 01:16 AM whats the pipe diameter of the borla exhaust? ATxB 03-17-2008, 02:10 AM its 3-1/2 inches tall and 4-1/2 wide sp2 03-17-2008, 06:45 AM no not the tips the piping leading up to the tips thanks sp2 03-22-2008, 11:00 AM well just got mine yesterday installed 12am haha yea me and amigos weird like that but love the look and sound cant wait to get headers and hi flow cat to make it even meaner ATxB 03-23-2008, 04:36 AM well just got mine yesterday installed 12am haha yea me and amigos weird like that but love the look and sound cant wait to get headers and hi flow cat to make it even meaner yea i wanna do that and straight pipe that huge scuba tank in the middle. But i love the sound before that and its gonna get better kortik 03-30-2008, 07:43 AM just to make it clear is there actually a Borla Muffler or its just piping that replaces the stock muffler? I cannot tell. I just ordered my 08 xb but I do not buy anything aftermarket from the delaer I have a custom Borla exhause on my Matrix xrs and will always go w/Borla but I need to know if there is actually a muffler from Borla or just a piping. Also I know that the stock piping is 2" what is the Borla piping 2.5" or 2.25" kortik 04-05-2008, 08:39 AM so anybody know this is or not? I need to find out what are the Borla kit pipe size is it 2.5" or 2.75" or what is it anybody I cannot find that info on borla website? cazzerz 04-28-2008, 12:22 AM Bump Bump SiZzOuRcE 04-28-2008, 03:50 AM Our muffler is mid-car. The big oval thing you all see under the back side of the car is a resonator. I highly suggest staying away from this setup. It is literally a pipe with a tip for over $300.00. Let me give you all a tip who are CONSIDERING this type of sound. Crawl under your car right in front of the passanger side back tire. There are two bolts thats are connecting this resonator to the rest of your exhaust. Unbolt those then use some WD-40 and spray the exhaust hanger (found in the back of the car-its a big black rubber piece) then remove it. This process is made easier if you have a friend help. Then, start your xB and rev it. Take it for a drive. It will be a little noisy on the inside, but the sound you hear will be the sound that you will be getting from the Borla system. If you like this sound, by all means find someone around you that wants to get rid of there stock axel back (thats what this piece that you just took off is called) and take it to an exhaust shop. Ask them to cut out the resonator (remember, its the big cylinder shapped object on the axel back) and weld a small piece of pipe in its place, but making sure it doesn't change the bend. Once this has been completed, re-install the axel back onto your car. Remember how it sounded on the inside (it was a little loud), well now the sound won't be as loud on the inside, but it will sound awesome from the outside. You know have what Borla is selling for probably 1/4 of the price. Enjoy. On a side note, the first thing I did to my xB when I got it was unbolt my axel back. I drove around without the resonator for about a month before I finally got tired of the drone on the inside of the cabin. My girl was pulling her hair out, but I didn't really care. Anyways, point is that if you want this setup, have an exhaust shop just weld a piece where the resonator would be and the drone will be gone but you will still have a nice sound. Toyota did us right in this form, but TRD is trying to rip us off because those resonators are like $20 and they are selling performance resonators? Give me a break. cincinfocal 04-29-2008, 04:05 PM gonna try hittin up a muffler shop to redo the whole axel back with just piping and get a tip from somewhere...what diam. should i go with? whats on there already? 2.25" whats the borla? D_Unit 04-29-2008, 05:06 PM If anyone is located in the Bay Area in Cali, there's a guy in San Jose that can do this for $250 and comes highly recommended. I'm probably going to go to him after I get my interior finished... cincinfocal 04-29-2008, 07:21 PM i could jsut buy this then... http://www.borla.com/applications/lookup.aspx/2008/Scion/xB/Stainless_Steel_Rear_Section/11756/ which actually sounds like a good idea...i dont want duals :p and this would still sound nice :D D_Unit 04-29-2008, 08:33 PM i could jsut buy this then... http://www.borla.com/applications/lookup.aspx/2008/Scion/xB/Stainless_Steel_Rear_Section/11756/ which actually sounds like a good idea...i dont want duals :p and this would still sound nice :D $250 for that isn't worth it IMO. I'm sure any shop do it for a lot less. BUT, it's all stainless and "bolt on". Most exhaust shops that I know of will hack off the flange and weld on from there. Personally, I'd rather have the simplicity of being able to change something out... I'm still waiting for Precision Muffler to come out with something. The Stylis kit for the tC's is sick! I really like it. A buddy of mine has an xD with the Precision Muffler Magnaflow axle back. Once again, really nice setup. But, I've called twice about the xB2... Still nothing. Everything they've done is too quiet, they said. :tap: xseveredveganx 04-29-2008, 11:18 PM And my quick question is: Are the tips clamped on or are they fully welded? I really want to run different tips...
