Default Any advice for side skirt, foot well and cup holder lights?

Ive decided to bite the bullet and put together a set of amber led lights to give me the optional foot well and cup holder lights wired to the oven light. I do not use my dome lights, but the oven light has got me kind of use to it over the months.

I have decided to tap the oven light to power the cup holder and foot well leds. Then tap the acc fuse to a switch to leave them on while the key is on.

Then, run 2 6 ft strips of amber leds under the side skirts to the same oven circuit to come on and off as I open and close the door. Of course I will put in a second switch between them and the other circuit so they can be left off if I choose to drive with the foot well lights on and not attract any tickets. I was going to use the blank above the gas petal to mount the switches.

What do you guys think? I think the amber of the lamps and silver of the car with the amber oven light will go well together. Sure I wouldnt mind a uv color, but again, I dont need to attract any tickets.

hmm , well I would attract them to a switch, I mean they cant be seen anyway from the outside unless you look inside and im sure by the time someone would , they would be switched off, I have them in blue with a switch under fuse box

OH yes, two switches. One from the oven light to the skirt lights. Then a second switch from the acc fuse to the oven light.

I am going to drill a hole on the inside of the center council for the cup holder and rear foot well single lead leds. They drill some small holes along the bottom of the dash to zip the strips of leds under the dash board foot well area. Wire it all up in parallel to the oven light.

QUestion is, how do you access the wires or lamp in the oven light? It looks like you need to pull it out, remove the AC controls or maybe reach in their from back of the glove box. I just need to reach at least the power wire to tap it for the rest of the lights. Any suggestions? I cant wait to post pictures. Not to mention enter and exit my car bathe in amber light as its dark out when I go to work and go home.

hmm , I was sort of in a rush to do my mod , I know I really should have done the center console, but I ended up running the wiring from the fuse box with the switch literally on the cover itself and ran the wiring down the floor under the door sills and so on. Works like a charm , but I did have some trouble finding that switch at night :/ , I suggest getting a switch with an led inside of it.

cobb, you will need to pull the center stack out to access the wiring you need....it's easy to do once you get everything out in the open.I ran footwell LEDs off the oven light and am going to go back and add a few more.I just put 2 per side, need at least 3.

I ran my cup holder LEDs off the gear position indicator light so they are on when the lights are on. Just be sure to add either a quick disconnect or leave a good bit of extra wire in the console.

Good luck!

Thanks, found it by the glove box.

Man, this is nice. I have matching amber 6 ft strips on each side under the car, 2 1 ft strips under the dash board and some leaded leds for the rear foot wells and cup holders. Cant recall the last time I needed illuminated cup holders, but I have that need filled.

Nothing like having your car glow to life when you enter it before sun rise and likewise after the sun sets.

I hear you man, I custom-built my own under-car kit with ~80 5mm Blue LEDS... man it took forever but the result is sweet. Also put in 12" cold cathodes under the dash & seats, swapped out the dome lights for 9-led arrays (damn bright!!!) swapped the HVAC & easy -bake backlights to blue, swapped the HU leds to (mostly) blue, and put in a blue/red el gauge face set. I open the doors and I feel like I'm stepping into a blue UFO!

WOW, that ought to look cool, but dont you attract cops like a nude man running down the interstate with an m16? Thats reason I went with amber color. I was thinking about green ,since most of those leds put out the most lights. I keep my dash turned down so the lights are almost nonexistant, just enough to see the speed o.

cobb:
I don't (often) drive with any of the lights on. Most of the interior lights are on the door switches, and well, driving around with your undercars on is just asking for trouble. I thought about trying to build a 'legall' kit, but by the time I started on it I'd already switched most of my dash to blue...

Do cops hassle for interior lights? Or is everyone referring to the side skirt lights?

I've never been hassled for interior lights, and I can't imagine there's much water to hold in a ticket, what with OE dash illumination available in every color under the sun (if any, I think the VW blue/red combo is a good example). Heck, the busses in my town are lit blue inside at night!
