Yet another problem i been having.

When going into reverse i get a rattling sound and vibration from the front of the car. Seems like the tranny is messed up.

Anyone else have this problem??

is your car manual or automatic?? from time to time, my gf's auto xb has a slight rattle, then a little vibration as I put it in reverse. dont know what causes it yet, but I hope its nothing severe.

Ya this is usually normal in manual trannsmissions. Considering the fact that the reverse gears are spur type lllllllll and the forward gears are helical l/////l which are i believe 70 % more quiet. There could be another reason if it a much louder rattle like something is about to break. It could be the shifter itself or the linkage not fully engaging the reverse idler gear and then having its rattling due to it not having full contact. Try pushing the stick in reverse a little harder and see if it disapears. If it does then take it in to adjust the shifter if you dont wanna do it yourself. If not try to detail your problem a little more for more help or take it down to a shop. GL!!

I have never had that happen, how many miles are on your cars?

I almost bought an Auto with this problem. The dealership fixed it, but they never told me what it was. They could hear the rattling in the engine compartment. They just thought something was hitting up against something else.

yes, i have a manual. just make sure you are reving it properly and it won't rattle.

Yeah but i am used to not reving high so i dont wear out the clutch as much. I am driving as i usually do with other cars. It actually does sound like something is hitting something else in the engine compartment

i have a manual.. i get the reverse rattle.. i was gunna take it back to the dealer.. but if thats just how it sounds.. oh well.. i'll deal...

you are putting wear on the cluth by not properly reving the car. you just need to learn the cluth for reverse. eventually you will find right where to keep the rpms. it took time for me on my matrix. it is just a learning curve for manual cars.

Maybe you shouldnt drive in reverse then. Just drive foward all the time, like youare supposed to...

a bit of advise....take it to the dealer...thats what the warranty is for :D im assuming none of you are past 36,000 miles yet lol
