Default xB gen2 sales down 18.4%

According to Toyota, xB sales for the months of June through September are down 18.4% compared to the same months in 2006. (Inventory was not complete in May) In August, xB sales were off 23% from 'O6.

I think it'll start picking up eventually. IMO the only reason they aren't doing as well is because everyone sees the MPG rating and think its crap compared to the xb1. It may be lower, but everything else about the new generation is way better and such a great car.

Hey.. Well at least there won't be that many of us on the road!! I've had my xB2 since Saturday and I still haven't seen another xB2 on the road. I like being unique... however oh so lonely

it's good for us current owners, as these xb2's won't become a civic anytime soon where we see them around every corner. But ultimately, for now, this is bad news for Scion corp. obviously.

From my consumer experience, I'd say that the main reason sales are down is because getting the exact model/ spec./ options from Scion is a big time hassle. Hear me out for a sec. on this...I live in the Bay Area. I wanted to purchase a 5-speed, white/ silver, base model XB. I diligently called every dealer around looking for that particular model. Finally, my prized possession arrived roughly two months later. Which is approximately two months after I needed a car. Had I not been so dedicated to wanting an XB I could of easily walked down the road to Honda, Nissan, and even Chevrolet since there were a couple of cars I had been eyeing out were in their lot. With all this said, I doubt many other possible Scion purchasers would of dealt with my situation. This is my first "New" car purchase so obvious my input needs to be take with a grain of salt, but this is what I've had to grow through just to purchase my XB.

I thought that was their intention? I know it doesn't make sense but I thought I read that they wanted Scions to be more unique and wanted to sell less of the next generation.

" I thought that was their intention" Now there's a positive spin. Yes, last year, when sales were strong, Toyota said they didn't want Scion sales to get out of hand. Now all Scion model sales are down the last couple of months. I can assure that's not what they had in mind.

So they do market research and listen to people as to what they wanted for the xB2, style it more mainstream, build it specifically for the USDM, and want to sell less???
Um, no.

Um, no.
Actually yes.
Here are links to several places that explain the strategy to sell fewer cars the next few years.

So basically, the original post in this thread says they are right on target with their sales numbers.
173,000 in 2006
150,000 in 2007 and the next few years.

Only problem with that is that at the current rate so far this year, they'll be lucky to sell 133k Scions.

I know this sounds weird, but I like those numbers! I'd welcome fewer xB2s on the road than the xB1. I don't need other people to validate my love for the new design.

But I somehow think that this will not be the case. It's just a matter of time before other people really notice the vehicle on the road. Just today, while doing a winery, a family was interested in my car, and I explained to them how much fun it was, and why I got the xB2.

And after all, Toyota is exporting the Calty design to JDM. How badass is that? And by the way, I'm not one to miss the irony of the current design: the ADM-based xB is a raunchy, mean highline hotrod that is being imported from Japan (build), and is being exported to Japan (design).

Who's with me - isn't that just awesome?

If this is truly the case then I now do believe that Toyota is using Scion to "dump" just to grab market share. Have they surpassed GM yet worldwide/US in sales?
