well...

on the way back from florida yesterday, my exhaust manifold cracked...and i had to drive 700 miles with the worst exhaust leak ever.

The worst problem is that the manifold is cast and i cant repair it :(
If it was stainless at least i could reweld the peice.

...so here is what i found :)

so you cant reweld a manifold that has been casted? but yea i remember seeing this on ebay......it maybe OBX but that manifold looks hella good :P

there are ways of repatching cast, but none are worth it imo.

so what turbo you gonna be using now?? Im assuming you have something up your sleeve now that your gonna be using a t3 footed manifold :lalala: :eyebrow:

it may be a T3 manifold, but they do make adapters...

never mind guys. i found that 3 of the 5 manifold bolts had come free (how??? I dont friggin now, they were all torqued and have been fine for the past 6 months)...

in other words the manifold is fine.

Anyways, im parting all my turbo ____ out for now. I put the car back to stock last night and im gunna start working on my buick.

nice, talk about balls off the line ;) it was so hard making the change to the box, but with the GReddy sc on there it isnt as bad, but it will never feel like my GP did off the line.

dam you people... Im struggling to install my kit and you guys are talking about spare blocks, i wish i dont have a need for that, but it would be great to have a spare one to mess around with. BTW, bfurches i can only imagine the $hit your coming up with. I WANNA SEE A 200WHP 1NZ-FE!!

has anyone actually tried the OBX unit?

JSosa

^^^^ I just dont trust it. Ive never seen or heard of anyone using it, so thats not a good sign and a turbo manifold for that price cant be that good. You know the saying: You get what you pay for.

Since i see you abandoned the whole custom manifold idea, buy an "already thought of" log type manifold from the best company and be done with it.

Tamago

yeah but 400 for a log manifold is a ripoff IMO..

JSosa

^^^^ Well then go for the cheap OBX and let me know when it breaks... Have you ever heard of: You get what you pay for?? Even though a log manifold is $400.00, you wont have ANY problems what so ever. You really don't trust R&D, right? Thats what puts the price to $400.00. Ive had this conversation with you before and first you told me that you wanted to do it your self to learn, then you didn't have the tools to finish which is fine (has happened to me many times), but now you don't think a $400.00 log manifold is worth it.

In your case buy cheap parts and hope it holds together. BTW, im not trying to attack you or rip on you, but if you can't do it yourself and you really want to go turbo SPEND THE MONEY!!! If your trying to make the xA a turbo charged cars with little amount of money, its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!! I don't know if you have experience with turbo cars, but they pull more money than women (no insult to the ladies reading this thread). Yeah you put it together for really cheap, now what?? Hope it holds?? Do things correctly and but yourself some decent equipment and quit trying to skimp around corners just to save $100.00. IMO, its not worth the savings when your having your car break down due to cheap parts.

Just my .02 cents

remember, V1.0 for me is under a grand.

remember the 1NZFE is a piece of total $hit block anyway that won't handle real boost without $1200 for internals.

remember you can buy a 3SGTE for under $1200 with trans and ECU..

then talk to me about cheap.

i do plan on blowing V1.0's engine.

i do plan on building V2.0 for around $2000.

V2.0 will stomp on $30K cars.

edit:..... i'm not saying $400 isn't reasonable. i'm saying i can locally have an equal length manifold built for around $400. am i doing it? no! because it's not the point. the block won't withstand crazy power so why put expensive parts on it to make it "more efficient" when it's gonna pop around 200whp anyway?

makes sense to me

Tamago if you hate dislike this engine so much and you think its just not worth it, then DONT DO IT!! Whats the point of spending $1,000 to blow up an engine to spend another $2,000 on a different engine. Not only that but all the time and money spent on putting the engines in and out. From the looks of it your going to have 2 or 3 blocks on your hand and you don't want to put internals because "the block won't withstand crazy power so why put expensive parts on it to make it "more efficient" when it's gonna pop around 200whp anyway?" why are you doing this??

Dont go turbo its a pain in the ___, all the tuning, problems, money, time, etc... You have never turbo charged a 1NZ-FE, i have, its NOT NOT NOT fun. My car spends more time on 4 jack stand than it does on the ground, so many issues, this car doesn't like boost nor do i think the chassis is designed to hold more than 130WHP. You think you can do it for under $1,000 - more power to you!! I would love to see if you actually get this done, i will be impressed, but from the looks of it, i dont think you know what your getting yourself into. Not because you dont know turbo, you just dont know 1NZ-FE in a scion xA chassis turbo.

i'm doing it for the experience.
