Need help with audio set up
OK so I am looking for 2 10" subs but I am not sure what I should go with. I have always had JL Audio but they are kind of pricy and I am not sure if there is something better or just as good out there, that may be cheaper. I am not looking for a competition system, but I do want something that will bang and look nice for shows. I do plan on building my own box and already have an idea of how I want the system to lay out. Also I will need an amp, and once again not too sure what to go with. Right now all I plan to do is amp the subs and not the internal speakers. Eventually I will change out the internals and amp those as well, but for right now all I want to do is get some beat. Also I would like to hook this all up to the factory deck, but I am not sure how to do this. I have heard others saying that they tapped the RCA's into the rear speakers and hooked up the remote to some 12V wire. I would rather not have to do this especially because I know that they sell some piece that connects to the back of the stereo that will give me the RCA inputs and hook up for the remote. Does anyone know this piece I am talking about. I can take the factory system anymore and really don't want to wait to save for the whole conversion, so I will piece mail it. (I am sure others understand where I am coming from
). Give me some suggestions as far as what to get and where.
the RCA piece that splices to the rear speakers is called a Line Out Converter, and runs about $20 from a shop. just tap the rear speaker speaker signals from behind the deck and your set. as for the remote, tap the remote wire from your amp to the 12+ acc off the deck, i think its the red wire, but double check the wire diagram jsut to be safe. this sends a 12v+ signal only when the car is on and should turn on your amp.
as for brands for the buck. as many people will tell you here, check out Elemental Designs. the prices are very very competive and the quality is great for what you pay for. i have a 13kv.3 and even though it was only $100shipped, it hits alot cleaner than my CVR did. they also have amps and offer components so if you wanna build a full out system (components, amps, subwoofer, etc.) they carry them.
personally though, i would highly suggest getting a good head unit before doing the in cabin speakers, having that EQ control matters night and day when it comes to sound preference. not to mention you would need 3 total LOCs or one fat LOC and tap into all the speaker wires, which i dont think is worth it. but thats just me
hope this helps you in the right direction.
