View Full Version : Are people still looking more for sticks or autos? Longoscion 01-01-2004, 09:45 PM Just trying to gauge how the market is going for xBs in regards to stick vs. automatic. Verone showpaojoe 01-01-2004, 09:51 PM Well i know my friend will be getting one soon and it will be an stick. Sorry Verone, he lives by 6 flags Longoscion 01-01-2004, 09:53 PM Bro, I've had guest from Sacramento area fly down cuz they couldnt find a car. I had a white and silver xB stick just arrive and really have not had too many guests ask for sticks. V showpaojoe 01-01-2004, 10:12 PM I know that when I went to visit him last, the scion lot only had 1xB and 1xA. I'm surprised about the stick tho. Everyone here who has it swears by it. We need to get the word out more kwicslvr 01-01-2004, 10:33 PM I'll be getting one of each. Auto for the wife. She's not a stick driver. I'll have the 5M. Longoscion 01-01-2004, 10:36 PM did you already order yours? kwicslvr 01-01-2004, 10:38 PM Yea. We take delivery of one when they go on sale here Feb 1 and the second one when the Limted Edition comes in. CBSIMONSEZ 01-01-2004, 10:42 PM im having the R.S. 1.0 in automatic delivered here to NJ. I have a Accent in stick, and yeah its fun to drive, but i have grown tired of it. Must have been all those years of truck driving =P SPAWN 01-01-2004, 11:46 PM i m getting an automatic, the only reason for that is because i am in the military and about every two to three months i take long trips , it is easier to control with out woorying about shifting up and down in bad traffic. plus i am not racing it so no need for the quick shifts and extra hp that is lost, i will gain it all back with the extras i put on her quadoptix 01-01-2004, 11:52 PM and the demographics of the people that will be buying this car, most people buy auto as MOST of the people on this board are within acertain age range so they buy stick, but if you consider the whole market, most will prefer auto. Its supposed to be a comfy commuter car not a speed machine haha. But yeah order autos, and maybe keep a small handful of sticks on the lot. =) White 5 speed seems to be what most popular when it comes to stick. Most people i know that have stick have white cars...weird huh? truenfalse86 01-02-2004, 12:03 AM 5-SPEED. Ive waited a month for SLO toyota to get a blk 5speed, its going to be next week until i get it. so a month and 6 more days. its bulls*&% if you ask me. but hey, why complain and go someplace else when it should be here in a few days. rampagesd 01-02-2004, 12:21 AM i test drove both the stick & auto a few times... i wasn't feeling the stick one cause i didn't feel too much of a power change when i would shift... i had to drive a different one at another dealer just to make sure about the whole stick issue and it was the same. so i ended up getting an auto. plus it's more of a cruiser can anyway. truenfalse86 01-02-2004, 12:27 AM typically, you have so much more control over the car when you have a manual, you can accelerate faster. usually shifting after 4-5 grand is where youre going to feel yourself go a little faster and where your going to gain. i did it with the dealer i wasnt easy on it. if im going to spend money on a car, i wanna see exactly what im buying. , im used to my mr2, and its little 4age, the tvis opens all the way around 4-5... (beside the point) i just find automatics to be pretty gutless, and the problems even worse with hondas. i hate having to wait them to fall into a lower gear to exellerate. SPAWN 01-02-2004, 01:24 AM i just find automatics to be pretty gutless, 110hp scion is pretty gutless too. IMO manual is for tractors, big rigs, and race cars, the scion is not any of those, everyone has their own preferance, no one is any better for picking one or the other. Longoscion 01-02-2004, 01:46 AM Thanks for the input. With the upcoming TC coming out, do you think that the transmission choice will lean towards auto as well? Bicepeak 01-02-2004, 01:49 AM Just trying to gauge how the market is going for xBs in regards to stick vs. automatic. Verone I am looking for a stick in silver myself. They seem to be rare right now. SPAWN 01-02-2004, 01:54 AM what is the HP rating on that one? if it is competative with the other cars in its class -RSX and TIBERON, a manual would be good, also remember that there is more than just drag racing in the world, autocross is a big thing for amatuer racers, and you don't need alot of hp in that , and a manual is a good thing in autocross. if it turns out to be competative i would get a manual and autocross it. Longoscion 01-02-2004, 02:33 AM guys, the release of everything will be on Monday at the detroit auto show. You can watch the live webcast through scion.com Silencei2 01-03-2004, 03:42 PM I went down to Longo Scion a couple of months ago and was checking out the 5M but they didnt have any I could test drive and the guy told me that they made a crap load of 5Ms in the beginning and now they are trying to make more autos to balance it out... Seems like there is more people wanting a 5M than a auto. Anyway... the guy never called me back to tell me when I could go test drive a 5M... bloody bastards... Mr_scion 01-03-2004, 05:15 PM i want a black 5spd Longoscion 01-03-2004, 08:23 PM Did you give him your number? Burn0ut 01-04-2004, 03:01 AM I'd want a stick...FI is hard on a auto tranny.... Pablo_xB 01-04-2004, 03:32 AM I'm getting an auto, I just want to chill and cruise 8) Silencei2 01-04-2004, 03:38 AM Did you give him your number? Yea, i gave Mark my number and I never got a call UrbanDrum 01-04-2004, 03:46 AM I had a really hard time finding my white 5speed without a sh1tload of options. I wanted one that was stock. Toyota of Carson kept calling me in telling me they had just got one in, but it was bull... They called me in "four times" and every time I got there, nobody knew where it was  then they tried showing me other cars  When Toyota of Orange called me and told me they had one on the truck that was about to be offloaded, I didn't believe him and told him to call me after he personally sat in the car. He did and I had it in my driveway an hour later. :D dulcimoo 01-04-2004, 07:37 AM I had same kinda problem with Manhatten Beach Toyota. I got a call in the morning and was told my car would be ready for pick up at 5:00 PM. Well 6:00 oclock rolled around ... so I call them ... "we are still working on it" ... what a bunch of BS. ... we called around and found one at ... hold on I gotta go see .... CABE Toyota/SCION. Talked to Kenny Rossi "The Deleaware Kid" ... had one ... was in and out in less than an hour. The only extra item was floormats. Was a good guy ... but didn't know about the XA/XB setting on the radio. Today the MBT called ... and said "sorry". I know then the dealers only make like a little bit of money on them ... and the salesguy only like $25 ... but if SCION is sposed to get the youngens into buying toyotas in the future I'd talk stright to the the customers ... yah we can get you the car on the date or not. I'm not happy with Toyota of Manhatten beach. My brother inlaw used to work there ... was the only reasion to go. It wasted a bunch of my time and money too. I'm not happy with them at all... but I should have known... How do you know when a salesperson is lying ... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . his[her] lips are moving. I got an automagic ... zipps along just fine a bit slow on the takeoff however. UrbanDrum 01-04-2004, 09:55 AM Toyota of Carson kept calling me in telling me they had just got one in, but it was bull... They called me in "four times" and every time I got there, nobody knew where it was  then they tried showing me other cars  Many of the people I mentioned my Toyota of Cerritos experience with, have told me they had a bad experience too... I guess they're just too big to care though (busy or something). :? Longoscion 01-05-2004, 04:58 PM Im sorry to hear about your experiences. I would never wish that upon anyone UrbanDrum 01-06-2004, 11:24 AM You've probably done that to other poor people too, huh? Longoscion 01-10-2004, 04:34 PM There are allot of dealerships outthere and some are just not pro-scion DibujoB 01-10-2004, 04:43 PM How do you know when a salesperson is lying ... . . . . .. . his[her] lips are moving. . Ouch, that hurts. That's one of the things about my job I hate....I don't lie to customers (with Scion, what is there to lie about?) and still half the people think you're BSing them. Yeah, there are a bunch of salespeople out there who make their living out of sticking it to customers, but they're a dying breed. The internet and all the consumer reports have made honesty and information overload overtake guile as the most useful selling tool. hatchbox 01-10-2004, 04:48 PM my first car was an automatic only because it was handed down to me from my mom. since then i have bought 4 straight manual tranny cars. And unless hell freezes over, i'll probably keep buying sticks over autos. a driver does not feel connected to the car when driving an automatic and it cheats the driver out of the "full driving experience" plus i laugh at peeps that can't drive stick.....ya gotz no skillzzzzz |
