Default 06' tC intake problem!! (LONG STORY)

Ok im going to try and make a long story short....here we go......

A while back I Installed a $60 ebay intake (yeah I know thats my problem but bare me) After installing I took it for a drive and well the inner fender liner fell off my car and I crushing it, so no liner......BTW if anyone has one for sale ;)

So ive been driving for a bit without a liner on my car and a CAI installed, BAD IDEA, had a huge rain storm, drove through a puddle, stalled, check engine light came on, took it to toyota and they replaced my $385 O2 sensor....everything back to normal.

YEAH RIGHT.....last couple of days its been raing, and no STILL no liner (don worry im looking for one now, and have learned my lesson) driving from dover to new castle (1 hr drive) car starts to sputter around 70 and the check engine lights blinks then stays on......OK ive finally had it!!!! Next day bought a new filter, which was the wrong size, so i used the one that was on there before, and decided to make the CAI ito a SRI to get it away from the ground and water while i look for a liner......

Installed the SRI and after starting the car noticed this piece, the one he has his hands on and is instaling.....

is ticking/clicking/tapping whatever you want to say, but its doing it slow, then eventually started getting fatser, no check engine so I decided to drive home, still no check engine light.

Next morning went to work, not but 2 mins check light comes on, Damnit and that part is still clicking.....have a friend use his obd II scanner and its the P2195 or somehting but its the sensor AGAIN hasnt even been a month since hey changed the one on the headers fromt the last rain BS, So i had him clear to see if the SRI was the fix....drove home (30 mins away) nothing. so I figured I had it solved 2 hours later got in my car to drive to my GF house, not but 2 mins and the light is on AGAIN!!!!!! ALSO when i step on the gas from start, at low rpms the car will putter a very little (sorta like a spark plug wire is loose) and its fine after like 2500 rpms

SO, now that you finally are cought up heres my questions....

1. What is that part, and why is it tapping or making a time bomb click??

2. Whats going on with the light and the repeted sensor pop up??

I plan on getting the liner, a new filter, drying everything out, clearing the code and seeing if that works, if not back to toyota!!!

Please HELP, and im sorry for the LOOOOOOONG post!!!!

after installing the intake, did you disconnect teh batter to reset the ecu. then recconnect it and let the car idle for 10 minutes to relearn the behavior of the new intake?

I have that same tapping noise, but I think I know what it is. All my engine / powertrain / intake / exhaust stuff is stock, but I recently got the DME front and rear strut tower bars. That same piece that you're pointing out is pressing up against the strut tower bar, and it's causing a ticking noise to be conducted from that part, through the unibody, into the cabin. I can only notice it if I'm idling, and have the radio turned way down (or to National Public Radio ).

Here's a picture of the same section in my car ('06 CSM tC); notice that teal plastic piece, and how the rest of the thing is below the bar:

So what does this specific piece do anyway? I'm guessing it's something important, but unfortunately it looks like it needs to be physically isolated from other parts to avoid a ticking sound being conducted to the frame.

Okay, let me see if I can offer any help. Im not exactly sure which piece either of you are referring to but...

The part circled in red is your MAF or Mass Air Flow sensor. It measures the volume of air coming through your intake. It is VERY imortant. It is this sensor that helps the engine calculate how much gasoline is needed to create the proper air/fuel ratio.

I can not remember what the name of the part circled in blue is. However, I'm pretty sure it senses how much fuel is passing through the fuel line to be mixed with air.

Anyway, point is both of those are important and you should do some thing to keep them from being abused.

The blue one is the one that's tapping against the tower bar. Doesn't seem to be crushed or otherwise impeded. It just happens to have a hard plastic top that bumps against the bar.

Look man get a god intake. I know alot of people say that they do the same thing but I have had nothing but bad luck with ebay parts. You can easily get a good used Injen, Megan or other name brand intake for the same price and I guarantee you that you will be alot happier with it. Happy modding.

the ticking is the VSV you circled in green above

it deals with your warm idle control... it's absolutely NORMAL.

as far as the car messing up? MAF might be damaged.. along with so many other possibilities... loose items.. something leaking... etc.. etc..
