Default LCDs in headrest OR 9" Overhead DVD player???

My lady and I just bought an 08 XB last night unexpectedly. Anyways, we ordered the navigation unit and the stock LCD headrests in the rear. Today, I joined this forum and found there is an option for a center 9" Overhead DVD player... Which one is better? Price is not really an option, but could be a tie breaker..... Our Scion won't be ready for another week or two, so we still have time to change things up...

Dual LCD in headrests = $1,600
9" Overhead DVD Player = about $800 + installation

I would do it yourself or have an audio shop do it! That seems to be a lot of money imo. I would go with the headrest monitors.

A 9" flipdown just doesn't fit the bill...

If you're going to do a flipdown, may as well get something a little larger. You can check www.onlinecarstereo.com for some flipdowns. They have better prices than crutchfield, that's for sure! But if you want to purchase something, call first to make sure they have it in stock!

Okay, just came back from the dealership, and we got rid of the stock navigation but kept the lcd headrests. Did we make a mistake? I am positive I would rather have the Pioneer AVIC D3, but my lady did not like the hanging LCD because it would block her rear view vision. If money was no object, could I buy better LCDs in the headrests better than stock? BTW, I can stress more how I prefer the "stock" look....

You most definitely can get better headrest screens. It just takes a little bit of fabrication, and you should be good!

The AVIC D3 is a really nice piece, especially for the money. You can also get a backup camera/license plate frame and your wife wouldn't have to worry about any flip downs! But, flipdowns look kinda like warts on the ceiling...

AVIC D3
Backup Camera
Ipod Adapter
Anything else? I kind want to order everything all at once. Do I need an install kit or something?

Is this place good?

Install kit as far as wiring, yes. As far as mounting it, I'm pretty sure.

Sonicelectronix is a decent place. Once again, call to make sure they have it in stock. Otherwise, you may be waiting a bit. Which backup camera are you getting? My buddy, midgethearsexb, did the AVIC D3 with all of that and it turned out pretty nice.

I just web surfed over to Crutchfield, and they are selling the AVIC D3 with free install kit and Boyo camera. Does it matter what camera I get? How do I know what's good from bad? Is there any tips or tricks of where to mount the camera? I just want what's best for my money....

I don't blame you for wanting the most out of your money!!
I'm not sure if it matters what camera you get. I know midgethearsexb got one off of ebay and it seems to be pretty decent. He mounted his where his rear wiper was. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...206&highlight=

If you don't want to get rid of the wiper, then try to find a license plate frame with a built in camera.
