View Full Version : Worst thing you have done to your new Scion
MarkRS1 10-31-2004, 11:45 PM I need to see if anyone else has done anything really dumb to their brand new scion. Here is my horror story...
I got my car 2 days ago. Not even 12 hours after having the car i go to park at my friends house who lives in a pretty crouded part of town. I decide not to parrell park my brand spanking new car because i am not used to the dimentons yet, so i drive around to find a spot where I can pull in. I find one, pull up, them my girlfriend says that I am too far off the curb. I back up and scrape my brand new RS 1 Alloy rim on the CURB!!! I have never cursed to much in my life, and i seriously have a horrible mouth.
Then yesterday after leaving my favorite Chinese food resturant i forgot that there was a concrete parking slab in front of me, and drive forward. I seriously almost threw up in my car.
I need some stories to help me deal with this. I am being too over causious and not paying attention to the small things.
mikochu 10-31-2004, 11:49 PM The first day of driving my car, I went to my bank's drive through. I was going in fine, then UP! Up on the median. I slowly turned the wheel to get off the curb without it touching my hub cap...*SCRATCH!* The wheel slid down the curb scrapping the hub cap. I've lived with it...waiting to save up on rims...
Wookie 10-31-2004, 11:52 PM Here you go, just to make you feel better :?
Two weeks after getting my xA RS 1.0 I come home after a bad day and pull into my driveway just like I always do. This time I was to the left in my parking space though and I didn't even think of it.
As I'm getting out of the car I swing the car door open as usual and it goes straight into the corner of my cement porch. Now I have a small dent in my door and a little spot where the pain has been taken off.
Granted the dent is very small and the dot is almost non noticible, but knowing it's there drives me nuts.
Nothing like stupidity to make you upset at yourself.

I hear you there. Even though the small scatch on teh rim isn't that noticable, it still makes me so mad every time i walk by it.

MarkRS1 11-01-2004, 12:10 AM I was going in fine, then UP! Up on the median. I slowly turned the wheel to get off the curb without it touching my hub cap...*SCRATCH!* The wheel slid down the curb scrapping the hub cap.
I feel that pain. the worst sound ever is cement against new wheels, Hubs or Rims, it doesn't matter.

Those little paint chips don't phase me anymore... I SAID THEY DON'T PHASE ME NO MO'! :?

My dealer called the other day to find out how I was doing with my new RS. I told him about my incidents. He laughed, and told me that if anything happens to the paint that Absolute Red Touch Up paint will be available soon.
Running over beige paint with all 4 wheels with splashes inside all wheel wells and both sides sprayed beige on a Black Cherry XA - about 3-4 weeks old.

And I thought I had it bad. Wow. Is it still on there?

Sprockett 11-01-2004, 07:23 AM 2 days old: gave my friend a ride home from a party...he was too intoxicated to drive home (or stand up). He puked all over the inside of my car and all over the outside (he puked out the window)
3 weeks old: parked it in the lot here at MSU, and some idiot opened their door into me, leaving a ding on my passenger side rear door.
3 months old: wasn't thinking...took a curve too sharp and rode the right rear wheel over the curb
3 months old: took an exit a little too fast and pushed slightly into the lane.
hnefrdo 11-01-2004, 07:45 AM backed up into my sister's, now, ex-boyfriend.

Remind me to never buy a used car from Sprockett.
Xcalibur1986 11-01-2004, 12:00 PM I've got one. I was washing my car when it wasn't but a month old, and then I did a large sweep over the doors with a sponge. When I was waxing it afterwards, I noticed a giant scratch the whole length of the car above the doors. I looked at the sponge, and there was a little rock in it. Horrible...luckily the wax took it out...
beckysuemomof2 11-01-2004, 01:01 PM I haven't done anything, but my 5 year old is constantly jumping on the roof. Boing boing boing I keep hearing, run out to the garage and there he is on the roof jumping up and donw. Ugh. Scratches all over the front where he climbs up. He's autistic and I just can't make him understand that he should not be doing this.

But I assume his situation is quite different. Is there any way to physically keep him out of the garage? Like a deadbolt high up the door frame? As he gets heavier, he's going to destroy your car.

My brother and sister and I used to do the sam thing to my parents car. But theres was never as nice as Scion.
beckysuemomof2 11-01-2004, 11:42 PM :( I hate to keep him out of the garage, he is very physical and we have rope swings and slides in there to keep him busy in the winter. I have actually swatted his bottom a couple times, but it doesn't do much to change his behavior. Oh well, my husband keeps saying "what did you think was going to happen?" I zaino'd my car and it really shines, I think that is what is attracting him to it. He likes to look at himself in the shiny red paint. Then he decides since his trampoline is down for winter, he'll just use my car instead. Such is life! Could be a lot worse, I think he'll get it eventually.
robert_gately 11-02-2004, 12:43 AM You may want to buy a cover for your xA, to prevent scratches.
scion-bb 11-02-2004, 08:44 AM moving into a ghetto apartment 2 months after getting the car, only to have a psychotic neighbor keyed both sides of the car from bumper to bumper because she thought i scratched her 1980's pickup.
TheDanger 11-02-2004, 01:32 PM Ugh...where do I start!
Day 3: I was driving down US 1 and the back window of another car hit mine...breaking my windshield and messing up my roof.
Just this weekend I lowered my box and I was coming down a side street onto a unpaved road my whole back end hit the street. It popped out my bumper (which I popped back in and screwed the bult tighter) and bent my skirt (still trying to figure out how to fix).
Then of course all the little marks and bugs hitting it but its life and I love my little box! :D
joshtravis 11-02-2004, 06:42 PM Reasons not to lower an xA
Week 1 of ownership
I hit 2 racoons, 1 squirrel and a bird
I drove over numerous dead racoons, snakes, skunks and turtles
I drove through water that was deep enough to roll over the hood (our road floods every time it rains)
Neadless to say, if you live outside the city, ground clearance is more important than ugly wheel gap
Oh, I also got my first gravel truck paint chips in the first week.

Did the road kill stick to your after you drove over them?
joshtravis 11-02-2004, 06:54 PM No, mine isn't lowered, so I cleared everything, but it all made me think I probably should not lower mine any.
superjeer 11-02-2004, 07:00 PM I think he'll get it eventually.
And once he does, you can get a CF hood or something. :)
MarkRS1 11-02-2004, 07:36 PM No, mine isn't lowered, so I cleared everything, but it all made me think I probably should not lower mine any.
Sorry about that, i thought your ment taht you had lowered it and you were warning others, haha.
I wish you better luck with the animals. Atleast they were all small ones...
jwinters78 11-02-2004, 07:41 PM ... i just had my first scrape....
I was parking and chewed up my passenger wheel on the curb (i was parallel parking)... i guess i'm just not used to the dimensions yet. It isn't AWEFUL... but it is still a blemish on my new car's wheel!!
... it was bound to happen sooner or later... i kinda wish it weren't something this rediculous though... i was going about 2 mph.
uugh...
My adventures in new car ownership:
1: I live in the woods where huge acorns fall like no other. Got three dents in one night (2 in the hood, one on the top of the hatch) before stealing my moms spot under the car port..
2: In a hurry to take out the trash, i hold the entire can out the window, scratching the paint on my door handle and on the door.
The bank drive through has also gotten a small piece of my back right tire.

My friend I feel your pain. I am guessing you still have your 17" alloys on. Do you know if there is any way to buff out a scratch on alloy rims?
zdawg913 11-02-2004, 08:00 PM try to apply wax on the wheel and use a cloth.... and some elbow grease!
dgHotLava 11-02-2004, 08:23 PM the dumbest thing i did was let my family drive my car.
2 weeks old...
family member backs car out of driveway and parks it on the street. (scratched plastic hubbies) was told to relax it is just aplastic hubbie. they didn't see the gash in the sidewall
few months later i put on some new 18's
3 days after...
family member takes car out of driveway to park it on the street.
chewed up the left front backing out of driveway, then chewed up front right at the cirb.
was told my tires are closer to the sides of the body than a 'normal' car.
i took all the extra keys to my car and snapped them in half. now i have one key left which i take everywhere...(even if i don't take my car)

yeah.... it was on the 17" alloys...
i looked at them closer than i couild right then and there... it looks like the curb won this little fight. I tried to rub it off a bit, but is pretty rough. I think i could buff it a bit and work it out... but i'll probably work on it after i get my winter wheels/tires on.
watch out for those curbs everyone!!

zdawg913 11-02-2004, 09:18 PM 2nd week I had my RS1:
Went to grocery store, as I was putting things in the trunk from the cart, I bumped the cart into the back bumper  , small scratch that I got taken care of.
Then after I put the groceries away, I put the cart away, and I'm in a bad mood from hitting my car with it. Then next thing I know, I open my door to fast and I hit the car next to me. Another dent (also now taken care of). What made matters worse is that the lady was sitting in the car next to me, and she got really ____ed off. It was a Benz E500, and the woman made me find someone to fix her dent. Talk about bad luck.
Besides that, I'm loving my car :D
asirvr4 11-02-2004, 10:47 PM in the first day for my xa, i had an accident a stupid F**kin guy had a civic smashed me on the left side of the front, he sayed to me he was starring at my car and didn't pay attention that it was my road
zdawg913 11-02-2004, 10:55 PM the fact that he was indian should have nothing to do with it. i dont go around saying "some stupid american (white guy)....."
flat__tires 11-08-2004, 10:38 AM so i've had my car for a few months now... and when it was in its completely stock form... it rains alot here on guam and the road is mixed with coral to make concrete and when it rains, it gets really slippery :) ... anyway there's this road where the road goes around these 2 triangles of grass... each leg is about a hundred ft or so and the corners are just perfect for ebrake manuevers... so all hell breaks loose and scenes from the drift bible enter my head. i actually got pretty good at it except for this one 180 turn... i pulled the ebrake and when i thought it was gonna just go down... it was stuck in the pulled up position. i must have sat there for a good half hour trying to get it loose and go down (hammered it with a wrench)... good thing it was in the middle of the night... can only image what kind of sh*t i'd be in if it were in the middle of the day...
i backed into some paved stepping stones that we sell at work :x
still not quite use to driving a small car thats a hatch back
that was then and this is no i'm getting better thats all that matters now :D
MarkRS1 11-08-2004, 11:10 PM still not quite use to driving a small car thats a hatch back

To tell you the truth, i dont know if I am ever going to get used this my XA. Since i started this "worst thing..." i messed up my drivers side back rim going through a taco Bell drive thru. I felt bad for the guy at the window, i was ____ed!
cseika 11-10-2004, 06:01 PM I' don't know if this thread is still alive but, i'm gonna give mine a shot
I was drank a little too much then rebadging my Scion to Toyota. Got a Echo front Toyota emblem. Took off my Scion and put on the Toyota, I remember I was looking at it when I was done and i was proud like "Ya my ____ looks good" kinda thing. Went to sleep. Next morning came down to my garage, I was like "WTF  was i doing last night!?" the I glued the emblem the wrong way as in FLIPPED. all the studs and ____ is sticking out instead of into the car!
____ feels dumb

LOL...Two things:
1. That'll teach ya to work on your car while intoxicated.
and
2. Why rebadge? Millions of people have Toyotas, but Scions are a much more exclusive crowd. I know people who still have no idea what a Scion is, and don't recognize the emblem.
zdawg913 11-11-2004, 02:22 AM Worst thing... see my topic called "Black Ice.... Accident." Thats the worst thing, but luckily I am ok and it is being fixed.
showpaojoe 11-11-2004, 06:12 AM Got an RS1.0 2 weeks ago...bro drove it today and ran a red making a left, oncoming traffic nailed him...now I need a rear bumper, quarter panel, door, and taillight
404error 11-11-2004, 06:46 PM hmm... ok i think mine was a little less than a month old. i pick up my friend and she goes in through the driver side back door and accidentally bangs it into the concrete wall, chipping some paint.
my xA was my first new car ever and i was trying not to let it get to me because it WAS an accident. but still. it hurt a little. :(
TheScionicMan 11-11-2004, 07:02 PM Here's a suggestion that helped me get my bearings. While sitting in the car, have a friend walk around the outside. Have them stand next to each corner of the car so their leg is touching the bumper. This will help give you an idea of where the edges of the car are at, even if you can't see them.
Also, remember that it's a tiny little car. You can leave a little more room between you and the curb or parking block and still not stick out.
I banged my driver's door into a cast iron lightpost, dinged but didn't break the paint. Right behind the bracing in the door so I couldn't get to it easily myself - dent guys should be able to do it.
Got a 1 x 2 inch rash on my passenger front bumper lip. That ones a mystery. I swear I didn't do it and the wife swears she didn't. I'm guessing one of us is wrong, but won't say who I think it is.
Broke my gas gauge needle when modding. Was able to Krazyglue it, but it wasn't strong enough to zero it out. I've only ran out of gas once because of it

Scion Man, your my hero!! :P
I don't know why i had not thought of that before. maybe it was just too easy of an answer.
SCI_FIRE 11-12-2004, 02:53 AM When I was handpainting the little dragon on my hood, I accidentally rested my hand on a line of fresh paint and drug it a little bit. I almost had a heart attack. The adrenaline rush gave me the shakes so bad, I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to finish it. Calmed myself down, cleaned it up, and made it through. At least it was fixable.

When I had my stereo system installed at Tweeter, they busted my cold cathode light, and gouged up my emergency brake handle. Never did make them fix it, cuz I can't figure out the replacement part for the light, and have no idea where to get a new brake handle.
zdawg913 11-12-2004, 02:56 AM nice painting, show a pic of it on the car

PikesPeak 05-07-2007, 11:52 PM Drove RS 1.0 up to Woodland Park CO. I saw a 'short cut' taking half the time. But I could only drive 10 mph down the mountain into a State Park. Last 10 miles were on a four wheeler course.
lowandslow2 05-08-2007, 12:09 AM wasent really my fault but it still sucked,2 weeks after i got my truck I lowered it and on the way to work that next morning I hit a freakin cat!!! and broke the bottom lip all to heck. he broke my bumper but i got that sum biotch :gun:
ItsmeJSB 05-08-2007, 12:23 AM When the box was brand new, drove to 600 + miles on the interstate for vacation in Florida. Chip in windshield, various chips on paint, etc ... Sucks but what can you do ???
