That's right, the 2009 Fit is soooo Merc A Class smooth it will make the xD redundant. The BHP is up to 116 and the car, which is larger, is only 27 pounds heavier.

i had access to a fit right around the time i bought my xD and the xD can fit more stuff in it and is still better "fit" ad finish then the honda.

If it will be as "easy" to buy as a 5-speed Fit S now then we have nothing to worry about. I'm still waiting for a callback from a Honda dealer to test drive a manual Fit. Going on 6 months now.

Maybe, but I like my xD. I actually was quite set on buying an 08 Fit (it looked great on paper) until I test drove one. The seat and driving position were simply not comfortable for me - ironically, it didn't "fit," and I was actually a little disappointed at first. I decided (kind of on a whim) to test drive an xD just because I felt obligated to compare other options, and that just ended up working better for me, and I'm still very happy with the decision.
If the 09 Fit works better for some people, great! I have nothing against Honda (in fact, my all-time favorite car is still an '88 Accord LXi, if I'm "allowed" to say that here...) But unless it offers vast improvements in fuel economy and comfort without an increased price, I'll be sticking with my xD.
Just my 2 cents...
Andy

I like the new Fit styling, however I have a new car already and I doubt I'll be trading for a different one anytime soon. Unless a great RS xD comes out >.>

Back in July I saw the Fit and told my sister about it as her Jetta was falling apart, she loved it instantly and bought it. Now... I really hope the new Fit is a major improvement over the current one as far as road noise, handling, and the bouncyness are concerned. You get a lot more in the xD for $16k than you do the Fit Sport at $2k extra on the price tag.

what an ugly pile of manure.

i don\'t see that as a threat at all.

honda has nothing that I see as a threat. even the new accord fails to go after the Camry. the Accord got beaten by the new Chevy Malibu (Car and Driver).

It'll make your mom obsolete in 2008 ...

Seriously tho ... this is a Honda vs a Toyota, it'll sell more, sure, that's a given, but there's still going to be a niche for the xD, just like there is now because they are two very different cars with different appeals

I mean .. c'mon, this isn't like GM selling 3-4 versions of the same car (ie cobalt, g5, ion) yanno?

that's like saying the new corolla will make the sentra obsolete, or even go back and say the tC and xB would make the Civic obsolete.

It is HIDEOUS on the outside, but I like the inside a lot. It's not really comparable to the xD, though - the Fit is more refined-sporty, and the xD is more unique-sporty. The Fit does have a much lower weight than the xD, as well as a better weight/power ratio... HP, anyway. The torque is definately lower. Has anyone seen the factory panoramic roof, tho? That's niice.

I hated the 2008 Fit, it just didn't drive right. And the body lean!! Made the xA feel like a sports car..

If the American fit has the CVT and Panoramic roof as options, it's definately competition for me. If it has optional AWD, there's my buy -_- Of course, I'm still waiting for the Audi A1 to come to the US before buying ;-) (2+2 seating, turbocharged 1.4L, and an electric motor pushing the rear wheels, not to mention 40-50mpg and 0-60 inh 7.8 seconds)

I didn't really pay attention to the title - I have to ask; how will this car make the xD "obselete?" That's saying a lot for this Honda that isn't even out yet.

These cars aren't even going after the same market. Scion focuses on younger people who want to customize a car, while the Fit is just another Honda, but smaller (not that this is a bad thing - Honda makes great cars).
