View Full Version : the Truth about the Scion dL, you can't handle the truth

There is no truth.

There ar no plans to make a Scion dL. I've made a few phone calls, this is just some ploy to entertain our selves on ScionLife.

Jim Farley VP of Scion DID in fact say that Scion WILL make a 300 HP RWD vehicle (can you say supra reencarnated) to compete and beat the 350z, Mustang GT, and next eclipse.

hummmm....Very unlikely...plus what makes you think that the people you made the "calls" 2 are going to tell you...so that you can spill the beans??? I doubt it...

I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens....

if they do make that and they keep it unter the target 20k mark, I am going to take one helluva financial hit to get that.

First off all, I would love Scion to make more cars, it would be more money for me.

Maybe the Toyota answer to the TSX!

I just don't think ScionLife is a credible source of NEW Scion information
EDIT: I just don't believe EVERYTHING you here on Scionlife.com

According to this site the $50 referal COUPON is a way to generate busines, however it is totally against the rules of Scion.

I just feel I since I have personal relationships with people at region, and that the owner of my dealership takes me to all his meeting that have anything to do with product.

I tend to get the best info from S/L. Back when the tC rumors were spreading S/L was THE ONLY place with credible info.I am in contact with my regional people all of the time as well. If they do have the info they are sworn to secrecy(sp?) and not telling anyone yet.

How many twentysomething drivers will be able to afford the insurance rates on something like this?

This concept doesn't fit into the Scion demographic. Now, as a Toyota it has potential.

This is a way for the website to generate a revenue and to created a closer connection between the dealer and the buyer. I don't see how this could be against Scion policy since almos 95% of the Scion Dealers you go to will give you atleast 50 dollars everytime you reffer a customer to them....I would think Scion knows this..don't you??

Just wondering...

 Can't we all just get along!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I know is that when we all started this whole Scion thing we were all told that there were going to be 6 scion models as of last year. That came from the higher ups in the scion ladder. So there is no doubt that there is a new model coming out and that the xb is getting replaced and that something will follow after that.

Now having said that, who cares if we all make speculations on what we think the next scion will be. I think it's fun to see what every person thinks it will be or look like. It makes things interesting and has me coming back for more. Don't take everything to heart it's all just for fun. Just have fun with it and in due time we will know the real TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im just posting this to clarify the 50 dollar mix-up with a few people>>>>and no there is nothing wrong with a bird dog or reffering someone.

Scion Life Dealer Referral Program

Dealership:

To participate in the Dealer Referral program you must simply fax this completed form to Scion Life with your dealership's general managers signature. As soon as your form is received the page for your dealership will display the Scion Life Supported coupon which can be printed by referred customers. Please allow up to 48 hours for your page to be updated, although it rarely takes that long.

The simple process:
Scion life refers a customer to your dealership. That customer buys a new Scion and at least $200 of accessories. Your dealership sends $100 to Scion Life. Scion Life sends $50.00 back to the customer.

The details:
When a customer uses Scion Life to research a dealership they will print and display a rebate coupon that shows that they located your dealership through Scion Life. Once they have purchased at least $200.00 of accessories along with their new Scion then you will sign-off on their rebate coupon. The customer will mail/fax their rebate form, along with proof of vehicle and accessory purchase, to Scion Life. Scion Life will send notification to the dealership that the rebate has been received and the dealership will have thirty days send payment to Scion Life in the amount of $100.00. As soon as payment is received from the dealership the customer will be mailed a $50.00 rebate along with a thank you from Scion Life and your dealership.

Why bother?
1. First of all, you know that most Toyota dealerships have chosen to also become Scion dealers. This leaves the customer with MANY choices. This program will help get customers into your showroom and will cost you absolutely nothing unless they buy a vehicle and accessories and complete the paperwork.

2. We know that accessorization is a key part of the Scion business model, and this program provides encouragement for consumers to include accessories in their new vehicle purchase..

3. A stronger relationship with your customer will be created when they receive a thank you card in the mail about eight weeks after their purchase. Enclosed in this card will be their fifty dollar check. The thank you card will be sent from Scion Life with our name and your dealership's name on the card.

4. You will be supporting Scion Life. One of the most important factors in the market is having solid support for the product that you sell. Scion Life is free for all to use and by participating in this program you will help to build a solid peer support program, which will only help to sell more cars down the road.

You're dead wrong buddy. The process by which the customer actually gets the $50 ScionLife Rebate does NOT violate the covenant in any way. As a dealership, we can solicit leads from any number of 3rd-party sources. With the $50 Rebate Coupons, the dealership is essentially paying ScionLife for a guaranteed-sale lead. The fact that ScionLife kindly splits it's per-lead fee with the customer is of no consequence to the dealership. The rebate is paid to the customer directly by ScionLife drawn on ScionLife funds. The covenant is well out of the loop at that point.

It would be nice to dream...

i wouldn't see why they wouldn't pull off selling a 300 hp car...
the hardest part would be to keep the costs down and quality up...
all they have to do is see who is making payments on their current scion... and set them up for financing for the beast when they release it... maybe in 07 or 08 =D

but i still think scion should release a turbo/fast box... that runs low 14's =D

So isn't dL inconsistent with Scion's naming pattern (xA, xB, tC...) if anything wouldn't it be the lD?

scionlife
11-07-2004, 05:34 PM
Please remember to keep things on-topic guys... this thread is all over the place!

The Scion dL is a rumor that landed at my feet via a reasonably reliable source. This is the same way that the tC was discovered and almost everything that was reported ended up being correct. I'm not forcing anyone to believe it, but I am trying to encourage discussion about the possible fourth model.

For the record I don't prohibit the use of Scion-Life-branded images on other sites. In fact, go right ahead and use them because it advertises Scion Life! If you remove the Scion Life branding then you will be in trouble!

The $50 rebate is NOT against the Scion covenant. The rebate is designed to encourage the purchase of accessories along with the vehicle. Since Scion Life is a third-party business and not affiliated with any dealership group we can do anything that we like. Each dealer can choose to participate or not. Many have.

As for naming consistency.... the tC is inconsistent! It SHOULD be the xC. What happens if Scion makes 27 cars anyway? They would run out of letters. Sooner or later the naming would have to change anyway. Plus, the xA and xB are built on the same platform, while the tC is not - hence the name change. Why would they not be allowed to make up new names along the way?

Remember that Scion is around for one primary reason: to earn younger customers to the Toyota brand. A $30,000+ high-insurance vehicle would not do this, so it doesn't seem likely. I would buy one, though. :)

And lastly, the link that was on the dL page was a mistake on my part. It has been removed.

Toyota hasn't decided whether to add a fourth Scion model, Farley said. Annual sales in the long term probably won't exceed 150,000 because Scion wants a degree of scarcity, he said.
``We're targeting young, urban buyers that want to feel their vehicles are unique,'' Farley said. ``Expanding the brand too much, adding too many models, works against that.''

He didn't, in the way you mean it. He simply followed the format of all the other Scion.com links when he made that one. It isn't that he knows something else about the rumored new model, he just knows what the coding/filename standard is for the scion website and used it to make, what he thinks, is the likely new link.

There very well may be such a car in testing but its not going to be a Scion. 400 HP ? 190 MPH? Insurance rates are high enough for males 16-25 as it is. Do you think Scion's target audience could afford such a car much less the insurance premiums for it? You're living in a Dream World.

I'm a military personal stationed at eglin afb in fl. the pass two days weve had cars driving on and around base. the front and rear of the vechicles are draped with a shadow cloth and the sides are white with black spray painted dots to distort any lines that might give it away to what it is. the're using the climate control building and i saw it turned down to 0 degrees last night. i dont know if this is it or if its a totally differant company or car. im hoping to get some pics and ill post asap, but it is a four door sedan and looks pretty nice! i tried to get some info out of the drivers here on base but they wouldnt give me ANYthing.

sweet, thats like some james bond ____ right there

ANybody who dreams of a Scion Supra is seriously lacking of any knowledge in business/business tactics. They created a seperate brand name for a reason, and if you look at the target market and the range in types/cost of cars in our. . . man I don't even want to waste my time. Dream on. BS flags flying sky high.
There might be a new Supra, but odds are that it WON'T be a Scion.

i do know for a fact that there is a car in testing right now that supposedly has 400(i think) hp and can hit 190 mph and will be part of toyota, lexus or scion soon.

There very well may be such a car in testing but its not going to be a Scion. 400 HP ? 190 MPH? Insurance rates are high enough for males 16-25 as it is. Do you think Scion's target audience could afford such a car much less the insurance premiums for it? You're living in a Dream World.

oops you already said the SAME thing I did. . . lol

In reply to Boombox757

Jim Farley has his roots in Detroit and I've personally met him in excess of 5 times. I've also met Jim Press a few times.

Personally I'm sick and tired of all the hate you guys have towards dealerships. Some of us are true car enthusiast too-we just happen to sell Scions for a living.

I'm just letting you know what I heard-whether what I was informed of was true or not remains to be seen.

This is about information not a popularity contest.

You sound like an honest guy, and I'm sure you run a fine dealership. . .
but as an honest man, you should know that Toyota dealers on the aggregate rate VERY VERY VERY LOW, in terms of customer service/satisfaction. On average, it is horrible and completely unacceptable. I've been to all to many dispicable, horrible dealers, that make me want to vomit and diarrhea at the same time, just so I could get my damned car. If it weren't for Scion, I would never have stepped into another Toyota dealer (key note: no haggle pricing). They have permanently lost a customer from any Toyota cars (still love Lexus and Scion). In fact, I tell most people I know not to buy Toyota, unless they don't mind a-hole dealers. . . and I'm considered THE car guy in my local area, so I have a strong sway.
Again I'm sure you are a great guy/dealer, but most Toyota dealers are horrible. . . and if it weren't for the great cars that Toyota makes, these dealers would be bankrupt. Just look at any survey/study of Toyota dealers. . . if Toyota Corporate doesn't fix this problem, I hope good dealers (like I assume you are) do something proactive against lying, cheating, scumbag dealers you probably know of.

2005 Ford Fusion sedan
(thank you edmunds.com)

Preview

What Edmunds.com Says: Ford needs a homerun with this Taurus replacement to get it back on the map of mainstream car buyers.

What We Know: The Fusion is aimed directly at midsize sedan stars such as Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. An all-aluminum 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine will be standard with an optional 3.0-liter V6 available. Both power plants will drive the front wheels and there will be a choice of manual, automatic or continuously variable transmissions. The Fusion will also be offered with a hybrid power plant. It's the same system that will power the Escape Hybrid -- a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a 65 kilowatt electric motor and a 28 kW generator to charge a 300-volt nickel-metal-hydride battery -- which has impressive initial fuel consumption figures of 35 to 40 mpg in city driving.

djct_watt,

That is so true and we are on a never ending quest to fix that (no sarcasm intended). Scion corporate is definately trying to fix those issues. Dealerships watch each other like hawks-to make sure the playing field is even, and no BS is out there. A dealership in trouble will do anything including break the rules of the scion covenant and bone thier customers to get business. As cutomers your input will have a great impact on the dealerships and how Scion corporate deals with bad dealerships. Check out the reviews on this site. I know Scion corporate regularly checks. I think to date we have more reviews than any other dealership in the country. We gapped our closest competition by 2 or 3 months worth of sales. To us and hopefully to others customers are #1, and our customers have taken time to share thier experiences. I know dealing with the toyota side sucks, and there is a lot of room for improvement. I just ask that all customers really let corporate know about thier experiences. It'll help shut down the cheeseball dealership and in a way help good ones get the cars they need to keep thier customers happy.

On the DL Topic. We have a regional Roundtable meeting in Cincinnatti on Thursday. Jim Farley should be there and I would love to forward any questions you guys have. I want to know what is going on with the DL if it will exist, and any new products-I heard of a supercharger installed in an Xa by the regional office. I'm not claiming to be an authority-I am however a definate enthusiast who straves for info-like ther rest of you out there.

:D No return fire-most gripes are ligitimate-I just hope you guys can extend the same leeway and courtesy you would if we werent dealerships. When we talk and reply on this site we dont see you guys with $$ signs in our eyes. We share the same interests. Hopefully you guys dont put A$$&*%@ at then of our names as well, unless we personally did something to earn it  . There are a lot of Bad Sales People out there, just dont lump us in with that lot, and maybe support us through your input to Scion.

marcelino

:? Still did not see any ?'s regarding the dL or anything else for that matter. I leave for Cincinnatti on Wednesday, and cant wait to bug the corporate guys for info.

yeah, i'm with detroitscion (btw the lions rule), it sucks being prejudged. happens all the time to me. i'm not from a car sales background, so i'm actually a horrible car salesman. :P i had a lady (who was buying a car from me) tell me that her brother, who has been in car sales for over 20 years, would have fired me a long time ago :P anyways, what i hate about the dealer rating thing here is that we have a smaller dealership, but we sell a lot of scions (33rd toyota, 14th scion, both out of 77 dealerships in southern cali), people rate us low for inventory and facility, so we always get lower ratings by default no matter how well everything else is. we have 15 reviews, and theres 10 or so dealerships in front of us with 1....bleh.

anyways, back to the Dl/dL.....we just wanna know what it is, and a ballpark of the pricing.

rumors rock. let's get all the dealers (myself included) to flex what they have heard from reps, presidents, VP's, directors, TRD reps, etc. and then everyone on here can take it and throw it out. where it belongs.
because really, not one bit of these rumors can be verified. seems illogical to debate issues over a vehicle that doesnt exist.
no offense to any of the other dealers out there, of course. but "i heard/she said/he said/that person told me" just doesnt get it done for me. cold hard facts? give me some of that action.

Based on the roundtable meeting we had yesterday-the dL is highly unlikely-too much like a corolla or corolla competition. They did however say that we should be watching the international car shows-the next scion will be previewed-abroad as a toyota. I know its kinda vaugue-but its is a lead none the less.

Darren

Actually, the reason why Scion/Toyota didn't call it the XC is because they were getting heat from Volvo, with their XC-90... and youre right, who cares if they arent consistent with the names!

They couldn't call it an xC because it'd be too sexC! (Ok, weak.)

It's SO OBVIOUS... it's going to be an Avensis. The tC pulled more than its target demographic, but not the people in that extra demographic that needed 4 doors to strap the child seat without humping the front seats.

Bird Dogs and referral checks have no barring on a transaction.

ScionLife.com offers a coupon. Coupons are totally againt pure pricing.

Follow the link, print it out and ask your Scion regional manager if it's compliant
http://www.scionlife.com/dealers/signup.php?dealer=276

My Scion rep brought this up at a National meeting, and the feed back she gets is that coupons of any kind toward the PURCHASE of a vehicle or against the Scion rules.

[/quote]

It's not a coupon.... it's a rebate on purchasing accessories not the actual car so it is allowed.

http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?n=178&sid=178&article=7633

I know there was already talk of it being a sedan, in which case I really hope it is or is like a Caldina! Not to mention that the sports car pictured is estimated to cost over $100k ...it'll probably end up sporting the letter L on it, but not dL. Though I again would like to stress that a little brother of this car would be much appriciated, somtehing in the 15-20k range, RWD, 200hp...there is a link in my sig where I rant on alot more
