Lower Windshield Knocking/Ticking Noise due to Temperature
Has anyone experienced a ticking or knocking noise from the two lower corners of the windshield on their 2007 Scion TC?
I purchased my Scion in November of 2006. When the temperature gets less than 30 degrees, the ticking or knocking noise is present when going over bumps creating vibration. It sounds like a metal on metal knocking noise and it is very annoying. I can hear it with my radio turned up. There is a service bulletin on the two upper pins of the windshield. I had this done last year and it didn't fix the problem. Last winter, my car was in service 4 times and the problem was not resolved. It started to get warm outside and the problem went away. The service department told me to wait till next winter so they had more experience with this issue and I was not a test dummy.
Here we are December 2007 and the noise is back. Two days ago, I took my car to a different Toyota service location and received my car yesterday. They assured me the problem was fixed. While driving to work with the temperature at 26 degrees, the noise was present and worse than ever. I shouldn't have to put up with this noise 4 months every year. This is a new car. Can anyone give me any recommendations on what to do? Your response is appreciated.

i did different DIY's to try to stop it, including raising the hood a bit with the rubber bump stoppers, insulating the driver side pillar next to the windshield w/ foam inserts, and covering the metal tabs that holds the hood liner with foam--i thought they might be hitting the strut bar.
is your car lowered? i first heard the noise last winter, right after replacing my suspension w/ eibach springs + TRD shocks.
i was in a minor wreck 2 months ago, and my front end was reconstructed a bit...haven't heard the noise since then. THough, i don't really remember hearing it too much before then either.
i can't say whether it was my "fixes" that stopped the noise, or whether the dealer sneakily fixed it without telling me---because they certainly never performed a TSB, in fact, they never even told me there was one when i asked about it.
i can't even say for sure if it was the windshield causing the noise, except that the noise did sound like plate glass on metal, or plastic on glass, or plastic on metal.
anyway, i know how friggin annoying it is and i know how useless the dealership/service dept can be. good luck.
but seriously, your description sounds EXACTLY like mine the same time last year. going over bumps, windshield area, and the noise description.
all i can say is try the things i did, and see if that helps.

1) raising hood with the adjustable rubber stoppers (they spin and raise and lower)
2) covering the metal hood liner tabs with foam
3) fill/insulate the windshield side pillar with foam (there are clips and a wire harness in there, i thought it might be knocking against the sheet metal frame going over bumps)
that said, i do definitely think there is an issue with the tc's front and rear windshields not being mounted/sealed properly. this would explain the hatch rattle too. when i slam my driver door from the outside, i can hear the rear hatch glass ratttle--just as it does when i'm driving over bumps.
its a real mystery PITA.
