Car 'puters have come a long way...
Almost makes me rethink my AVIC D3, until I look at the cost, but nice and can do a lot: http://www.azentek.com/
I thought someone might find it interesting.

Niiiiice stuff.
A big stereo guy named Steve Meade (www.stevemeadedesigns.com) put one of the carputers in an Escalade he's working on. Silly Escalade has 8 18" subs in it now... And 30,000watts...

the azentek unit is nice but... $2799!?!?!?! sounds like the price for it was set by a scion dealer! hahaha...
anyway, i had built a mini-itx solution a year or two back but it cost a grand and was slow as hell so i sold it (lost about $200 on the resale) and put the rest of the money into this--
my setup:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...ablet-box.html
i always loved carputers, but hate spending so much on bells n whistles. so i bought a tablet laptop, made a mount for my box (gen 1) and have been using this as a "carputer" ever since, for navi, music, movies, etc.
i have taken it on tons of road trips and it is something i can not travel without now l0l
yeah, it aint the pretty-est thing in the world but it works for me. plus, when i park my car, i can take my tablet to work or to class!
my setup cost about $700 - due largely in part to the huge deal i got on the tablet. so it costs far less than one of the 7" in dash units, but on the plus side, it's a huge 12.1" touch screen, awesome on battery life, and completely portable.
nite shot
