Default question on making your shifter shorter

Is there any way that you can "make" a short shifter? What I'm saying is to cut like 3 inches off the stock shifter? I dunno, maybe thas just dumb? What do you think?

A lot of short shifters do more than just shorten the part at the top. They also make the part after the pivot that connects to the shift cable longer. You can technically have a short throw shifter and still ahve the stock **** height.

Just get the TWM. Shortens the throw like 35% and lowers the **** 2". I love mine

If you really want to do it ghetto style.....use a dremel to cut it as short as you like and then use a tool to re-thread.

I would follow reign's advice on getting the TWM....but hey it's your car

ill probably cut it down till i get a short throw, b/c its not ridiculous like taking off your muffler just so its louder. your not damaging anything and it will look better if u do it right imo

Um... you ARE damaging something - your stock shifter. If you're sure you're going to replace it, no worries. But if you get halfway done and you can't rethread it right or you screw something up, be prepared to drive it with that thing cutting into your hand.

Don't worry- You can always superglue it on

I would never do it, but I have driven a friends car that was just glued back on- It was fine

honeslty, if u don't know wut ur doing....don't do it, but its ur car, not gonna make ur choices for you...

i understand ur saying that u want shorter shifter, cutting it will do the trick, but if u want shorter shifts, go with TWM

but with the money issue, cutting it will do the trick, just make sure u do it rite

i would do it. nothing to it. benefit of the short shifter is you have a relatively short throw. i've done it many times.

before you cut it, make sure you have a 12mm threading die.

yeah, I was gonna cut like 2 inches off the shifter today and then i ran into a problem. The shifter stick gets bigger like halfway down, so the little silver ring were the leather is attached won't go down. so unless you make that ring bigger, maybe by drilling it, cutting it will be useless.
