View Full Version : Can I easily remove the ash tray cover?
JaCqEeZ 03-05-2008, 12:53 PM yea I have read some where on here that some one had the same problem but didn't mention what he did about it. I use to put all my spare change in the ash tray and it got too full, now there is change jammed behind the cover and it won't open. Is there a way to removed the cover.
CSOCSO 03-05-2008, 12:58 PM ash tray??? our car has ash tray?
JaCqEeZ 03-05-2008, 01:11 PM yea. I guess you could use it for what ever the hell you want. But i would imagine any smoker would use it as an ash tray. The little compartment that flips up in front of the cup holders.
JaCqEeZ 03-05-2008, 01:12 PM anyway can I remove that cover easily?
1_kLEan_tC 03-05-2008, 01:39 PM No.....
emptystreets130 03-05-2008, 03:21 PM That's not even an ash tray. That small compartment is a one piece unit that's integrated with the console and the cover itself is not easy to take out.
rvpps2rocks 03-05-2008, 03:27 PM the only way i can see to do it its to pull out the legs of the waterfall on the dash then pull out the change holder/ ash tray....and shake the living hell out of it untill you can get the lid open. i want to say its pressure fitted but i havent take a look at the underside of that part of the dash
jonathan110987 03-05-2008, 03:31 PM mine did the same thing with the change... i took it off and used a pen to push all the pennies out that were stuck..
u gotta take off the piece where ur shifter is first then the coinholder/cupolder section.

its pretty annoying but isnt so bad. what i learned from this whole this is to only put silver coins in that compartment.
pennies can die.
JaCqEeZ 03-05-2008, 05:08 PM thanks for the thread nano

I hate pennies. They are a pain in the ___ to get out of that little coin compartment.
nodsetse 03-05-2008, 08:19 PM But i would imagine any smoker would use it as an ashtray.
I'm a smoker, but would NEVER use that compartment as an ashtray. :nope:
silversurfer897 03-05-2008, 09:36 PM Scion does offer a "ash tray" or at least they did if they don't anymore, it was an option when I bought my tC. It's more of an ash cup that sits in your cup holder.
robocp4 03-06-2008, 03:23 AM Wow glad to read that i'm not the only one with this problem. I actually got so tired of it that i did fix the problem last night.
1. remove bottom piece of waterfall
2. pull up e-brake and remove that black plastic part aka the cupholder section by pulling up starting at the front and working back as there are a few clips attached to it
3. shake the heck out of it to remove change from behind the compartment.
TADA!! a working compartment again
4. slide black cupholder section back over e-brake and attach the clips back down.
5. put back together the bottom waterfall piece.
YAY!! your done with extra change to put away.
Hope this helps anyone. Sorry i dont have pictures i did this late last night cause it was bugging me for the past week.
jkev79 03-06-2008, 03:32 AM that happened to me once..what i did is this. i unclipped the center panel, which has 2 parts, the top and bottom one..the top panel just unclip it slightly in order for you to remove the bottom one. once you've unclipped all of them just take the bottom one and get the change out...remember that the ashtray has a little spring..so as you put everything back in place remember to get the srping back in place. hope this helps~!
