Tutorial On Installing Engine Bay Lighting?
anyone have pics of their install of engine bay lighting? I wanna add some lighting to my engine bay but dont know how i should run the wiring and where i should put each light. if anyone can help that would be great!
Man there are so many ways you can do this. I used 4 pairs of 12" cathodes. and 10 medium leds in chrome mounts. I put 1 pair of cathodes behind each of my lower billet grilles, and a pair on each side of the core support and under each fender edge (one tube of the pair mounted inside the upper radiator tie bar and the other in the fender edge). The wiring is straight forward. I ran my switch wire in thru a little rubber boot near the a/c switching ground, I got power from the battery thru a fuse. I installed the 10 single LED's in the metal wiper cowl panel pointing forward onto the engine.

My current lighting is only 2- 12" cathodes mounted under the top rail of the dore support. 1 green and one purple. Looks sic when dark. I mounted a rocker switch next to the hood stop so I can turn them on when the hood is up. Just use a fuse to whatever you run and route the wires so they are hidden.
I have a series of micro switches to the right of the breadbox/console area mounted to the bottom lip of the dash. Currently I have 4 switches there controlling ...1. Main Amp turn on lead (used when playing music to power music modes on the undercar lighting when no actual sound is wanted), 2. Subwoofer turn on lead(used at the same time as #1 and also when I want to haul cargo on top of my subs), 3. Undercar Lighting, and 4. Under Hood Lighting. I also have a lighted factory like switch in the hole to the right of the airbag warning light to control interior/footwell lighting.
do you guys have pics of your engine bay lighting? I know i can put the lighting just about anywhere in there, but im just trying to figure out the wiring. Also with cathodes you have to have a transformer and dont know if i wanna go that route and just buy the LED strips from Oznium and not the cathodes...

The little boxes are not that big of deal to me. I like getting more lighting for my money with the cathodes. It's a challenge hiding them suckers but that's half the fun of modding.
I just recently did mine. I used a motorcycle lighting kit, but all it is is 6 6-led pods and 2 6-led strips. I have hidden the wire since I took this pics, but you can get a general idea on where I put them.

I sent the power wire inside to a switch and then back out directly to the battery.

I dont have any pics readily availible, but installing is really easy.
grab 4 12" cathodes & 2 6" cathodes.
3M double sided tape ( the kind with red plastic )
couple feet of 18 guage wire.
Using the double sided tape, mount all your cathodes out of sight. Under the wiper cowl ( up underneath the little black lip ). Then under the radiator support. Then mount the 2 6" ( one each side ) on the inside of the fender inside the engine bay. Mount them high and out of sight. You can mount the transformers for the cathodes too using double sided tape. Route the wire up and out of sight as well. Ground your ground in the engine bay and run the power throught the rubber gromet under the brake booster. Install a switch and your good. Just that easy.
