NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- Small cars are making a modest comeback as many U.S. consumers seek to abandon large gas guzzlers, USA Today said Thursday.

"I've been a truck guy forever," Jason Francis of Corona, Calif., told USA Today.

But Francis has traded in a quad-cab pickup truck and a Ford Expedition SUV this year for a Toyota Scion xB and a Ford Taurus X. "The big dinosaurs are going away," he said.

Industry analysts said the movement wasn't enormous but car purchases now account for 47.2 percent of the all vehicle sales.

... Small cars sales -- usually around 14 percent of all new vehicle sales -- are up 20 percent of all sales, Autodata reported.

the example that was given here talks of two cars that are smaller than what the person previously had but in no way shape or form "small cars"

In the case above the guy did downsize, but didn't go as small as he could.

A taurus X IS a Big step down compared to an expedition
I agree its NOT the best example, Maybe the guy tows and the taurus would be a small choice that can trailer

Is Scionlife.com biased? I know it isn't something a bunch of scion fan/enthusiasts want to hear, but the truth is, scion is not doing well, scion's hit a slump. Now it's only fair to mention that the auto market as a whole has hit a slump, but either way, scion's down in the game and it's partly due to there very unexciting new cars; the fat xB and the freakishly hard edged xD.

I think it's important we keep on top of the good news and the bad news.

Toyota may have ruined the Scion brand on their way to becoming the next General Motors.

It's people like some of th close minded ones on here that are ruining it. We are so stuck on thinking that our 1st gen xBs were the only real ones we are segregating ourselves within ourselves-a house divided against it self cannot stand.

I like the 1st gen xb, I don't like the 2nd-I won't buy the 2nd gen but anybody that does- that's their decision. I like the xD-often thought about trading my xB for one.

I think that anybody that comes on here, on a real scion lover's website, should be greeted based on the similarities of us both owning scions-if they are an a-hole person and keep posting crap then I don't like them based on that-not what they drive.

I would trade in a second for an EVO, GTi, R32, mazdaspeed 6 or STi because I like them better. I bought my Scion because it's a cool car and a great deal for what you get.

Yes, I would have a 1st gen xB body on an EVO, STi chassis in my perfect world but it's not. I am not going to hate on someone because of what they drive-that's ignorant.
